Media Player & Firefox Freeze Until Volume Adjusted

Been having the same problem as:

for about a month or so. The problem is intermittent, but firefox and my media players will occasionally freeze, or not play (e.g., youtube, pandora), until I adjust my volume from the keyboard. Then everything is fine until the next song/video loads, but everything freezes again until I adjust the volume. Super annoying, and would love to find a solution. This is the only post I found on the internet that explains my exact same problem. Is this a Garuda or Arch issue? Doesn’t happen in Pop_OS! or Windows. Thanks.

Hi, i am on AMD rigs, and I did have sound/video issues all of a sudden; here is how I addressed them;
(1) i did a garuda-update;
(2) rebooted the machine;
(3) started playing audio & went to the info center on the upper left and made sure that the app had the correct assignment on sound device, etc. I am on KDE, so I am not sure if GNOME has the same issues.
(4) I did see an update come through for some KDE packages, and that is when I had the hickup, but another update came through and now everything works fine.
Sound issues though with KDE, if that is what you are running are not exclusive to this distro, I have had sound issues with Opensuse & Fedora before.
The thing with KDE is that it is so customizable that sometimes a user can make changes without even realizing they are making changes, and then problems ensue.
I reread your file, you are on KDE, so yes work with the sound app and see if it will fix things.

That actually sounds more along the lines of another audio issue I occasionally have, where my USB audio has to be unplugged/replugged to get recognized, and/or have to change audio to correct device. I've done all of those steps more than once, and still having the same problem. Thanks for the response.

i too have noticed such issues. but i have been logging my updates and can't find a common point of failure. try using the -lts kernel or try -mainline (currently on linux 6.0) and see if your problem resolves itself.

had this issue before and it was linked to problems with JamesDSP running.

hi, not familiar with JamesDCP; is this a service running that I should disable? I saw a couple of updates coming through since yesterday one of them was saying pulse audio, i rebooted, and keeping my fingers crossed sound is working ok not and videos don't stutter anymore.

You can go to System Settings > startup and shutdown > autostart > press the remove button for jamesDSP
No reason to keep it there if you dont use it :smiley:

Its also no longer autostarted since of lately.

I'm still waiting for it to happen again. As soon as it does, I will disable JamesDSP, and see what the immediate result is.

it just happened to me again, disabled jamesdsp and now i have sound after a reboot... so that is full update then reboot, no sound. disable jamesdsp from startup, reboot. now i have sound right away

Problem finally happened to me again, so I uninstalled JamesDSP and rebooted with no problems since. Unfortunately, its too intermittent for me to say that JamesDSP solved the problem. The best thing is to assume it worked if I never post on the problem again, and since it seems to be the solution for everyone else. Thanks for the help all!
