Recent garuda update causes loading minecraft to freeze system

bit of a wild one I’ve rolled back to a prior snapshot and everything seems to work fine but when at current update. when I launch Minecraft the computer fully locks up (have to use the reset button/hard power down) right as the game would render the world there doesn’t seem to be anything meaningful in journal as far as I can tell.

✅ System health check passed. No issues found.

this is from the restored system so pre-update I can run garuda update and provide the inxi from that or provide the list of packages from garuda update as needed.

That’d be great.

given when and how the hang happens I’m guessing its something in the graphics side of things oddly there’s not a nvidia driver update though

Heya, do you actively use OpenRGB? Can you try disabling the program? Thanks.

no as far as I know it shouldn’t even start with the system I use Solaar for my keyboard Id been meaning to remove it. its removed

Does that make a difference to your game post update?

If not, we will need the garuda-inxi after the update regardless.

nope still full stalled heres the Inxi on reboot.

Just did an update and my Minecraft runs with no issue

interesting the modpack I’m running is using shaders I wonder if that makes a difference the specific point my system hangs is when Minecraft would transition from the menu renderer to the world renderer on top f that I can play regular games fine which has me thinking somethings going weird in opengl rendering given most games run under proton would be using vulkan as I understand it

two additional points of data because I thought to test them vanilla does not cause the crash and turning off shaders in the modded instance does not prevent the crash my best educated guess is something in one of the 3-4 render mods required to make shaders work is whats causing the system hang but its very odd that it only causes that on an updated version of garuda none of this happens when my system is booted to a snapshot from before the update yesterday

Take a look at this topic:

so disabling embedium and affiliated mods did not fix it of some interest I did find this in the journal from the next to last crash from this

Sep 22 07:58:58 Hestia kwin_wayland[6456]: kwin_libinput: Libinput: event2 - Logitech Gaming Mouse G600: client bug: event processing lagging behind by 26ms, your system is too slow

Sep 22 07:59:11 Hestia kwin_wayland[6456]: kwin_wayland_drm: With the output of 'sudo dmesg' and 'journalctl --user-unit plasma-kwin_wayland --boot 0'

its not in the crash from my most recent test though

That’s not helpful, nor is posting only fragments of a log. How are we supposed to verify your assumption if we don’t have any logs or if it’s not clear from the log fragments what happened before?

Have you tried excluding the mesa stuff from the update (or downgrading after the update) to rule that out as the cause?

Have you tried a different kernel?

BTW: If the problem only occurs with installed mods, then it’s not a regular package that has been updated that’s to blame, but the corresponding mod.

alright I found my answeres atleast but to respond in order

there was nothing in the initial post template and I logically assumed if my entire system froze there would be something rather obvious in the system logs that snip it I found latter was on the tail end of prisma launchers initialization logs it was also not there any any other run of trying to resolve this issue

also while this is generally true the mods where not updated or modified between garuda being updated so logically the update introduced a bug either in one of the packages or made a bug present in one of the mods reveal itself
for the actual answer it seems one of the mods spark has a bug with the current built of the kernel which was reported here

I can also verify removing that specific mod solves the issue

That bug is WILD. Crashing the entire system from non-root userspace? Crazyyyyy

that’s why I thought it was something in the update itself I mean mine craft runs in java it should be off in a box that cant break anything easily the one time i’ve had something like this happen before it was on windows and it was a graphics driver bug with shaders

I’m using a Legacy driver-only, Nvidia-card myself and maybe had a similar issue.

Something recently from garuda-update also seemed to have possibly broke my fullscreen ability in DotA 2, i rolled back previous to many of the same updates you list above

… sometime around Sept 12-13 i believe was where my issue came from.

i’ve left my system alone… till now. I’m about to try to selectively re-update things from the entire list, excluding suspect ones with the ^ and all that.

Will try and report back here with more useful info.

Blahblah details of my updating habits & good exp in Garuda XFCE for +8 months now.

Hopefully it’s something simple like just one of those WINE, vulkan,or other gfx related lib updates.

it is remotely possible i had more than one issue happen but i spent many hours undoing-and re-testing that part already, (which did not fix anything btw,) and so after trying about all other stuff i could think of [kernel boots etc], in several different combinations, with intention of eliminating the idea of it being multiple issues as well,

i loaded one of my [99?] old snapshots from a day i could remember this problem was not happening … and poof, bang, boom -i was back to ‘business as usual’. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I keep the 4 kernels zen, Linux LTS, CachyOS LTS, and CachyOS ready to be swapped between generally ‘in case’, and that has worked well for months i’d say… till this odd little black-screen–cant-see-but-can-hear-&-click-blindly-on-things happened.

Even doing a manual terminal “update” command about 1-2 times a day had been going smoothly and just fine before. [With exception of the rare need for stuff like a keyring update and that aur-pacman update thingie.]

So it seems quite likely something in that large set of updates around that time did something to my (admittedly older pc with an older nvidia card etc) box that had been running smooth as can be tho.
