Primary Monitor Not responding to right click and wallpaper missing

Good afternoon.

I had an SSD go down earlier today which caused a bunch of issues. The SSD was a secondary drive (NTFS) but I was able to retrieve my files on another machine, install an HDD (btrfs) to avoid any issues like that in the future and restored via Snapper so that the games that stopped working would work again.

However, I’m still having issues similar to this thread: On login, Background on one screen is missing and right-click menu doesn't display but I did not see a solution to the issue there.

On login, the background wallpaper for the primary monitor is missing and right clicking on the primary monitor doesn’t bring up a context menu. By switching the primary monitor to and from brings back the background and any windows/menus.

Is there a way for the display to boot in the way it was when I restart/shutdown?

OK, a new wrinkle. Started Steam, went to load a game (Hitman 3) and got this error.

I had fixed this with the Snapper restore. But clicking Abort then brought back the issue of the missing desktop background and right click not working on the primary monitor. I have a horrible feeling that the SSD failing has made a right mess somewhere very important and that a full reinstall may be required.

Apologies. To be fair, I did think it was the same issue; attempting to start the game reverted the display problem.

Could you try updating again? If the problems are somehow linked (unsure because nobody mentioned other problems in the thread I linked), there was a package that was causing issues that was just updated to fix the prior version’s issue.

I’ll reboot now and see what happens with the display etc.

After reboot the same issue with the display background and right click function missing. No issues with the game booting and playing though so a relief there.
