I would if I didnā€™t hate Firedragon so much

This video maybe of some interest

I just posted the info for others that are bound and determined to run AI even though they shouldnā€™t.

I understand, I just came across it accidently and thought I would share it since people somehow enjoy making a mess out of there lives.

Ainā€™t that the truth!!! :upside_down_face:

You know, people may not understand this (or perhaps even care which is sad to say), but there is a certain spark about people immersing themselves into there work that is lost when a computer just takes over everything. For instance, when I read a comment, a document, a technical paper, forum post, even an instruction manual. You can see a human put effort into it, there is a sorta connection with the writer you get when you look at these things. I also see this in source code, you can see signatures of sometimes unique styles of programming. There is a specific human to human connection in all of this.

Take a look at this forum for instance, I like being on it, I like reading through problems, I like seeing peopleā€™s perspectives on things. To me, it makes Garuda more then just some style of operating system to use in place of another operating system. I can see lots of time and effort, care and pride was put into this development. It maybe, a means of controlling a machine, but deep down, a human made it and a human maintains this creation. You can see there is a sort of connection when I use this piece of software. If I couldnā€™t be aloud to have such a discussion like this, I would have just moved onto the next operating system, but I keep coming back to it not because it just functions but there is good people to talk to behind the scenes when I use it.

I have been here asking for all kinds of technical solutions, so much so I can almost feel frustration in dealing with people like me. Now, I donā€™t mean to be a nuisance when I ask questions it just happens, sometimes things just donā€™t process the same way deep in my neocortex like it does with most people when they do a search engine look up. However, when Iā€™m reading all the comments, you can almost see a sense of ā€œsoulā€ in peoples forms of communication. This sense is lost when you get a machine to just take over everything. There is no connection or substance, itā€™s hollow, itā€™s empty.

When you do the work you do, there is a residue of you put into it, something that is lost if all you care about is just time so you can swiftly move onto the next task. Little by little, inch by inch, you get this tool to do more and more for you over time. Eventually, it may start taking something from you, not all at once. A little bit here, a little peace there, who cares right? Next thing you know, 10 years goes by, some of the tasks you do on a regular basis, you may forget how to do on your own without the assistance of a machine. You can already see this happening in day to day life right now. One good example, farming. I havenā€™t met to many people who can plow a field by horse. They depend on the so called ā€œJon Deereā€ tractor, until the PLC gives away on them and you get zero cooperation from tech support. I hear it from time to time ā€œIf only I had a barn full of horsesā€. This is what this AI garbage is going to do to us if we let it.

ā€œtheirā€ , not ā€œthereā€!!!

AI is not garbage, the propaganda around it IS. openAI and others need billions of investment, so they spout crazy talk after crazy talk.

Technology is what you make of it. It seems you are jaded from what you see others use technology. I say, let others be others and try to find good use for yourself. You can still use it and continue to ā€œbe humanā€. You donā€™t have to lose your soul!

I hope you find fun and a good way to use technology. For me, means no more writing git commit messages  And a hopefully, better English, since that is something I am trying to improve for myself. My English is very ā€¦ basic. I would love to know how to speak better.

Very nice, sincere post. There is a danger that the best of what you are saying gets dismissed as a belittling of automation, whereas what I am hearing (reading) you saying is appreciation of qualitative value of things and experiences, and that there is a risk in allowing qualitative values to be replaced by quantitative methods, processes, and values, rather than ensuring that both are allowed to abide happily.

This is a serious genuine problem and already well-underway in the wider societies and economies. (The most obvious example being large populations of people unable to know how to perform rational logical reasoning functions after a decade or more of removing philosophy & thinking itself from general education).

I agree also that Garuda Linux is unique and even gifted in offering the best possible qualitative experience for users by superb technical means, including the forum. I.e., the seemingly infinite possibilities for customizing Garuda Linuxā€™s myriad settings to any userā€™s particular or even idiosyncratic desires is what separates it from the rest. Good job bringing the subtleties of this to the surface via your post (and sorry in advance if I have misinterpreted what you were trying to say.)

Damnā€¦ really sad by state of affairsā€¦

So many youtubers/bloggers/articles ā€œteachingā€ how to run deepseek-r1 in just 1.5B or 7B or 8B, claiming it is the real DeepSeek R1 or V3. Nobody mentions that they are LLama and Qwen models TRAINED on DeepSeekā€¦

I guess the quote: ā€œA Lie Can Travel Halfway Around the World Before the Truth Puts On its Shoesā€ should be updated to ā€œAll Around the Worldā€. That and all Internet Youtube/Blog/Article scene is just copy paste from others, with really no checking at all. (at this point, I am starting to trust more the real DeepSeek-R1 (or the R1 Qwen models >= 32b) more than humans).

Have no clue why Ollama did this! (for the clicks and publicity ???). Can anything related to AI be real and honest? good questions!

Next ā€¦ Microsoft should try selling MSDOS 6.2 claiming it is Linuxā€¦ They just need one youtuber and all the others would copy/paste!

Garuda story (auto-translated from Russian) from Shilpa Marga Telegram channel

(Russian-language TG channel) :trident::crescent_moon::om::eye: story about the 64 forms of Shiva (ŠŸŃ€Š¾Š“Š¾Š»Š¶Š°ŠµŠ¼ рŠ°ŃŃŠŗŠ°Š· Š¾ 64 фŠ¾Ń€Š¼Š°Ń… ŠØŠøŠ²Ń‹).

:trident::crescent_moon::om::eye: We continue the story about the 64 forms of Shiva.
The fifty-seventh form is called Garudanthika Murty ā€“ Lord Shiva and other gods including Garuda who venerate Him.
One day, Vishnu wanted to have the darshan of Shiva. He rode on Garuda and went to Mount Kailash. With the permission of Lord Nandi, He entered inside. Garuda remained outside. Vishnu did not return for a long time and Garuda tried to enter. But Nandi did not allow him. Garuda became furious and asked Nandi, ā€œWho are you to stop me from entering inside, you are only the vehicle of Lord Shiva?ā€ Hearing these words, Nandi took a deep breath and exhaled. Garuda could not bear the force of the exhalation and staggered. He immediately cried out, ā€œOh Lord, save me.ā€ These words reached the ears of Vishnu and he requested Lord Shiva to have mercy on Garuda. Lord Shiva released Garuda, who was in a half-dead state. Thus, Garudaā€™s ego was removed and he and Vishnu returned to their abode.

you should check out the new rules for gtk5 its only downhill. cosmics not ready yet (still has memory leaks) and theming is kinda a mess but theirs hope it might get a bit better there as time goes on. Though gtk 3ish 4+ app have 0 global menu support. so its best to look elsewhere if you want that to work. on other OSā€™s

Yeah I havenā€™t even seen any of the gtk5 stuff.

I know COSMIC is a hopeful, and honestly hoping they can figure out the memory leak stuff and add some more features as it matures.
I know global menus arenā€™t a thing yet in COSMIC, but I follow (loosely) the Pop Chat, and the lead dev on their GH said that heā€™s definitely interested in making global menu a thing (former mac guy, lower priority though), so that gives me some hope lol. Would love to run Garuda COSMIC as a Mac-esque type OS along with my Garuda Hyprland.

But yeah they need to get some of the core issues fixed first.

Plasma is the only other DE that has a truly functioning global menu. Unity tries but with GTK gutting global menu exports, itā€™s basically useless.
Do you know of any others that have global menu support? I canā€™t think of any others off the top of my head.

Edit:

Just checked them out and yeah, not a fan already. I hate how Gnome is in the cycle of breaking/changing their APIs every release. Itā€™s so frustrating. I used to want to build Gnome extensions, but I refuse to put up with Gnomeā€™s constant API changing.
