I couldn’t imaging living a life of paranoia like some of you guys here. Like is privacy really worth all the hassle and lack of convenience? I just don’t get it really

Nah… I think it’s good. Consumers define the market at the end of the day. I don’t like what they are doing. Good enough reason for me.

You’re wrong here it’s the most vital and not minor part actually, because it collects the most important thing - your actual identification:

  1. Once you insert SIM card - you’re forever linked your device IMEI / IMSI unique numbers to your actual government ID.

  2. Government already knows your ID and exactly who you are and likely everything about your personal life (because all the usual privacy violators share all the data with 3rd parties for cash), so by combining it with geolocation they’ll know exactly who and where you are.

  3. Combined with all the other spyware, GSM and Wi-Fi triangulation, Bluetooth-LE on most phones, except GrapheneOS where you can actually kill it - they’ll know your exact position to an inch.

  4. Now imagine if you’re also an absolute normie who uses social networks and proprietary software at the same time with everything i’ve mentioned above…basically it’s glowing agent inside your pocket 24/7.

My point is - all that data without SIM card / IMEI /IMSI leaks - is not really much to anyone.

So yeah, even if let’s say you use ā€œold lookingā€ burner phones without being smart about it - you will get immediately burned by just inserting SIM inside it, besides new ā€œold lookingā€ phones have even more spyware baked in them, than Android / iPhone (which i find surprising, but not really )

Well you actually don’t have to live a life of paranoia with GrapheneOS, it’s very easy to use.
And yeah, privacy really worth it…all that convenience vs privacy is a propaganda false dichotomy.

If you know the implications of loosing privacy - it’s like being constantly raped…is it really as convenient therefore?
Maybe for some people it is, i don’t know.

Love my GOS. Once you get the hang of how profiles work and the sandboxing it isn’t hard to use at all

I’d say it’s absolutely worth it, and it can be fun. For example, since recently I’m leaving my phone at home when I’m at the office, which means my GPS cannot be tracked while travelling and bluetooth beacons etc aren’t getting any signals from me. Feels pretty good.

What type of phone do you have? I degoogled completely with my Pixel phone using CalyxOS. I kick myself for having not done this years ago. Not only did it extend the life of my phone via adding updates and such, but I am free of all of Google’s tracking code from the backend, playstore, location service, etc. If you have the right phone, I highly recommend.

I have a ZTE Blade A52 Lite, it seems to have a fairly stock rom since most of the google apps can be uninstalled or disabled. I also have a Vivo Y1S, but that has a Vivo customized rom.

I’ve heard of it about 6 years ago or something…used by nation-states exclusively back then.
Oouf.
