That’s what i did recently, got a good deal on a new Pixel 7A and put GrapheneOS on it, after 16 years of iphone usage and I’m loving it. Couldn’t resist to garudafy that wallpaper though

The better product is going to win. I am going to try out these mobile OS’es soon enough.

I sure am happy to use Garuda Linux… Let’s see if the phone market can live up to the it.

I tried to de-google my phone as much as possible using Fdroid, Aurora store and the Debloater app you can get via Octopi, this is the only apps I use on this phone. Using DuckDuckGo to block app trackers.

This is (much) better than nothing, of course, but the proprietary components in Android (specifically Goolag Play Services, but other stuff, too) are still tracking you. If you want to be serious about privacy, the only way is to go full GrapheneOS, and even that is far from perfec (but it gets you about 90% there). Unfortunate fact of reality is that there is no perfect solution, except not using a smartphone.

The problem with custom roms is… risk! And specially for someone like me as I have Galaxy J6 (2018) with hardware Knox which makes it more difficult (also not Official TWRP and less availabilty of roms make it not worth it). After some months I may get a new phone and then try roms on this J6.
Currently, I have removed a lot of Samsung apps and some Google apps with UAD.

I’m so glad I moved away from all this hassle of custom roms and root and crap. All of it gave me a headache especially with the introduction of A/B partitions

Try one of these phones … problem solved.

It’s better than most other solutions, but it’s still not completely foolproof.

Windows 11’s global desktop market share dipped between February 2024 and April 2024 from 28.16 percent to 25.65 percent, while Windows 10’s share grew to 70.03 percent from 67.26 percent. Things were slightly closer a few months ago, but the gap has since widened.

That is last-year’s news, but yeah, I watched that video earlier today and it’s astonishing.

Comparison of mobile roms.

The /e OS seems to be pretty ā€œsandboxedā€ interms of sharing no data.

I’d like to see a wider study here… would be interesting.

In my own anecdotal research - nothing comes even remotely close to paranoia level of GrapheneOS.
You can basically become anonymous, if you use only stock / F-Droid software and don’t ever use SIM-card / Phone / SMS (because once you do even for a second - you’re burned, in terms of government surveillance)

The GSM geolocation is as old as the mobile phone… That’s also minor. It’s not like collecting data of someones personal life everyday.

GSM location is like within 1km accuracy… not ā€œreading your mindā€ data collection.

Edit.
My main rationale for changing from stock android is ā€œwhy does my phone need to do this?ā€

Another one is… If Graphen OS is more secure then Android has failed. Because Google is every where and they are The Ads company making your mobile OS - that’s what you get.

I like simple functional devices that just work. I guess I’d be one of the trend setters like others here too.
