I'm thinking, has any wishlist been open at bugs.kde.org for this? Do you know?
I think this is it: 433072 â Allow dragging maximized window from empty space in Panel, though the title doesn't specifically mention wishlist.
Btw, has anyone had issues with the top panel sticking after clicking it (ie it won't hide itself after you click it and then click on a maximised window)? It's a bit annoying, so I have to hit the meta key in order to bring up the application launcher, close it and then click the maximised window to make it disappear. If this is a common issue, maybe I'll file a bug report there
It was an issue with Latte too, interestingly enough.
Ah, it's only an issue when 'windows can cover' is selected. If set to auto-hide, it doesn't do it... but I don't want it to auto-hide itself all the time, so it's a bit annoying >_<
Funny that i had the same problem yesterday with that happening. but it,s only done it once so far
I don't know if this is the right place to ask. But how will we switch to the latte-free edition when it comes out? Will running garuda-update
do it? And also how do I get the new configs as I have installed from a older version of the ISO and some configs are broken (fish config many commands are broken).
dr460nf1r3 talking how the garuda-dr460nized-next
package will be merged into the regular package:
So, most likely a garuda-update
later down the line will apply the changes, since Latte-dock will break with the changes that the new KDE version will bring (that can be observed in the kde-git version).
Correct. You will still need to select the Dr460nized
Global Theme in System Settings to active it. It is not supposed to activate by itself without user approval/action.
Package garuda-dr460nized-next
is already available in the repo for those who want to switch now.
â°âλ paru -Ss garuda-dr460nized-next
garuda/garuda-dr460nized-next 2.0.12.r31.g5961a7e-1 [2.08MiB 4.24MiB]
Dr460nized settings
Ok, that is unrelated to the Latte-free discussion here and a garuda-update
will not fix this.
You can open a new thread on this for help, but I can tell you 2 things : First. there are already a few threads on the forums talking about resetting config files, with proper and clean solutions. Second, to make this quick in case it will help you right off the bat, you go in Garuda Assistant
and you can reset some configs.
If that does not help or if you have more questions/concerns, plz open a new thread independent from this one.
I'm still thinking about how to do this best. Obviously we can't just overwrite existing configs, therefore a prompt to enable the Dr460nized global theme would likely be best.
Since youâre thinking about it, a few questions and use cases that donât need answers necessarily itâs just to get you thinking :
That prompt would show up after the package would be installed?
Example: you garuda-update
(or upd
hehe) and at the end a Kdialog would pop giving the option to switch?
Or would it be managed through garuda-system-maintenance
package? Or something differentâŠ
In the first case it would need to be done prior to 5.27 being installed, so that Latte does not forcibly break and still gives the user a bit of time to think about it if he/she wants to.
Or if at the same time as 5.27, the prompt would just be written differently in my opinion.
I personally would push it some time before 5.27 to prevent the user from being stuck in the situation.
One last thing⊠if itâs a âpromptâ, how will you manage people who might be performing the upgrade through TTY? That may sound weird but for some specific reasons once in a while I myself perform upgrades directly through TTY without logging in Plasma. The question is not if it is good or bad to do so, itâs that itâs possible to do it, so someone will.
lol
IMO a prompt in terminal would be the best, even if user is logged in to Plasma.
I would need someone to try to reproduce an issue.
When installing package garuda-dr460nized-next
and then applying Dr460nized Global Theme (with Desktop and Window settings checked on in the little prompt before applying), the Plasma Desktop icons stick with Breeze and persist after reboots.
I applied another Global Theme, the Plasma Desktop icons changed to whatever the choice of that global theme, then re-applying Dr460nized and again icons are Breeze.
ONLY the Plasma Desktop icons (top bar, User Switcher to log off, log off screen....).
I checked the config of the Global Theme and it says the icon theme is BeautyLine, which should work, but it does not for the Plasma Desktop icons. They are supposed to be BeautyLine, not Breeze.
Can anyone test this see if it reproduces?
This was done on bare metal machine. I will test tonight on VMs as well.
Will check with a new user tomorrow.
A'right, well good news is I could not reproduce the issue.
1 VM with latest fresh 221019 ISO install and updated, after installing garuda-dra460nized-next
and applying the Global Theme, all icons are fine. Tested both under Wayland and X11.
1 VM with ad-hoc 230109 ISO build comes with pre-built Global Theme. I swapped themes and re-applied Dr460nized and all is fine again. Tested both under Wayland and X11.
So that tells me I will have to fix the icon issue on my father's machine, since it seems only on his so far. loll
Let's see just in case if @mrvictory can reproduce somehow.
i've done this already.
i've been experiencing issues with opening the latte configuration and this morning my desktop background vanished and i was unable to open the right-click context menu on the desktop itself, even though it works everywhere else.
strange times lol
thanks for all your hard work, G-team =-)
I tried the "dragonized-next" package, tried it with a fresh user and here are my impressions:
- It is much better than what I got out of the box 1 year ago. There were blur effects everywhere, animation speed was slow, for some reason Wine was starting but that didn't happen.
- I can't seem to configure the bottom panel. Is it Plasma panel or something else? It also just disappears when hiding without any animation.
- Titlebar hiding for maximised windows is disabled. I'd prefer it enabled even without drag feature of Latte.
- Window menu applet didn't work with Dolphin and Firefox for me. (on X11)
- @FGD there are no icons on desktop by default, so I created one and it was fine.
It is in fact a plasma panel and yes, thatâs just itâs regular way of hiding. I also feel like some more configuration options wouldnât hurt.
The titlebar hide feature is disabled due to the fact that the window buttons applet also broke. There wouldnât be another way to close the window unless double clicking the top bar.
Couldnât find any issue with appmenus luckily.
If I set my panel to auto-hide on my regular user, (no next) it slides out.
Working on my regular user, I use Wayland though.
Open up ~/.config/kwinrc
and flip the variable (or add it if not there) for Borderless Maximized Windows to true.
[Windows]
BorderlessMaximizedWindows=true
Logout and log back in.
I was pretty sure my explanation wasnât clear cuz I couldnât remember the exact definition and you just confirmed. loll I meant the icons used like in User Switcher and Log Out screen. I think they are better called Plasma Style icons.
On just ONE of my machines they were flipping to Breeze Dark:
But I believe there is a left over config someone on that one machine cuz I could not reproduce this anywhere else.
You mean Latte-Dock dock or Plasma Panel dock?
Good suggestion, but no thanks, Iâll pass. lolll
You caught a hilarious typo
Glad I stumbled on this thread as I heard Latte was out the door.
I hate waiting around so I installed the garuda-dra460nized-next
package by hand. Selecting the Dragonized global theme didn't
kill Latte for me and it kept loading too, so I just uninstalled it.
I had to manually add the top and bottom panel/dock as well.
Everything seems to work good. The only issue I had was the login
screen background defaulted to the blank one. I tried resetting it
through settings but it wouldn't stick. I had to edit the theme.conf.user
by hand and add my preferred background. Looking good so far.
Trusting all future updates will take it from here..
Keep up the great work. Thanks..
