Last update of sddm caused black screen after plymouth

Is it because of the different kernels?

Maybe, It could be the different graphics cards even

Or on the mobo?
Mobo: KBL model: Dr460nite_KL

I use the same zen kernel as you and got the black screen too. Fix it after I change the SDDM as @zoeruda suggest.

I am very pleased that a solution has been found.

But I would really like to know why some users have to switch to the git version while others don't.

Your GPU is pretty hot! (panas keras)

Yes. I set it HIGH on CoreCtrl. Maybe gonna set it to LOW

My concern going forward is should we just stay on the git version until further notice? How do we know that one is not going to have a problem soon enough?

People that run on the bleeding-edge sometimes get bloody. It comes with the territory. Garuda is like The Hulk-on-steroids. If you want stability, install Arch.

Just installed sddm-git from chaotic and it fixed the issue. Occurred to me though - this will affect all new installs if the user just accepts the updates. Rather than adding ignorePkg for sddm - should sddm-git be made the default?

This happened to me too, installed Garuda to my main machine on 17.4 and on 18.4 this happened
Got it back to normal by restoring a snapshot, but didn't have a clue, that it was an update that did this (I was installing games and tons of different things). So after update I was back at the same state and in the end, none of the snapshots worked anymore...

Re-installed on Monday and yesterday had the same happening again... Got wiser (maybe) and decided to check the forums (thank God!)

Changed it to -git version and at the moment everything seems to be ok...

Strange that it happened to you on 18.4, because the commit of the new version of sddm is from 19.4!
It doesn't matter ... better not to complicate our lives, since we've solved the issue ...

Maybe it was, because it was my birthday :joy:

Some kind of twisted birthday present :fireworks:

P.S. I actually though I brought it to myself, as I was trying to get Freesync working and edited some configs... I still don't know if Freesync even works, because I have 2 displays... But, it's not the end of the world. First tinkering with Linux, in about a decade... What a way to make a "return" :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
