I cannot launch any apps

Ok, so this is very strange. I upgraded to KDE 6.1 a few days ago. Everything was fine then I started having issues launching apps. Everything else seems to be working fine but I cannot launch any apps at all.

What’s strange is everything seems to work from between 5 minutes and a few hours then it starts happening again. I keep getting this error:

"Launching System Settings ( FAILED) Unit [email protected] not found.

This happens with every app including terminal, settings, login, reboot & restart the only way out is to power off the computer. I have restored to a previous version using Snapper/BTRFS but same thing happens.

I changed my hostname which was suggested on Reddit, I created a new user and it worked for a few days and started again out of nowhere. I’m completely lost! I REALLY don’t want to re-install arch because I have things exactly how I like it. Also, I can’t post any logs because I can’t use the terminal and I’m using a live USB right now.

Please help!

Not getting support without your garuda-inxi and or at least attempting to rollback your system to be for the 6.1 updates and trying again just to see if maybe you just gewt a bad update.

It sounds like the source of the conflict is in some modification in the local contents (files in user’s $HOME folder).
If so, system modifications would probably not help.
I suggest you investigate what is that you do and leads to this, even for a new user account. What did you change in the new user account?

You might want to keep a terminal open with journalctl -f running, until the issue happens. Then save the terminal output in a file and analyze the log and/or post at a web paste bin service for others to try.

Or you may want to check journal from previous boot sessions (man journalctl for how-to tips).

Hi, I was able to run journalctl -f

journalctl -f

Hi, were you able to find a fix?

Which apps failed to launch?
Having the journalctl -f command running, try all the apps that fail, and post all terminal output.
Report if any app is possible to start.

Every app fails to launch. System settings, terminals, even shutdown and restart.
It seems to be working at the moment but it does this. It will for for a few minutes or a few hours then it will revert back seemingly out of nowhere. I have journalctl -f running right now.

hi, I managed to catch Journalctl while the error was happening.

which apps exactly?
The less good answers you give the less chances to find a solution, if any.

It seems a plasma kio flatpak/portals bug, but it could be anything.
If it was a plasma bug, every plasma user would have the same problem.
Each application that fails, write it down exclusively.
Saying ALL, makes readers think you don’t know what you are saying, or you are panicked.

Which means the system is OK.

Provide some proof about the problem.
How do you try to start apps? Menu, terminal command, voice commands?
How many graphical applications do you have installed? How many of them do not start? (try them all)

I am having the same issue. I can run apps for about a minute after restart/sign-in after that no app will launch. When I try to launch an app I get a notification like Launching Konsole (Failed) Unit [email protected] not found. replace konsole with what every other app it is all of them dolphin, firefox, steam, firedragon, VScode, VLC. No app will start once the problem starts.

I have tried rolling back with snapper same problem my Kubuntu that is on the same hardware works fine though.
Some apps sill work KDE Connect can fing my phone using the panel but i cannot launch the GUI. I believe it is a KDE Plasma Issue.

edit: info

So I can launch apps for the terminal i just can’t launch them from the desktop

There will probably be no continuation in this thread, as @gr4y has apparently solved his problem by reinstalling Garuda (“Strange issue. When installing program with terminal it changes my audio device to "loopback"”).

Your error description is similar to that in this (solved) topic:

Read through it carefully and check whether the cause and the appropriate solution mentioned there also apply to you.
