Uh HO! GOG in trouble with losses and restructure in the works. Maybe they should embrace open source like Steam, hum.

Steam deck FAQ....

Valve Posts Updated Steam Deck FAQs To Address More Community Questions

I mean they kinda do more so than steam. Their games are DRM free and games that have linux ports have a linux installer for them. I mean it would be nice if they made galaxy for linux but at the same time they are not like epic that instead kills linux support for things that already had it.

Not sure how you can say that, Proton, steam deck (even running linux.)

Yes, the DRM free part is nice. Steam/Proton is kind of doing a round-about currently to address the DRM, not freeing themselves, but making games work now that have DRM. I think the DRM-free is best, but it also limits the game pool since some game houses refuse to give up DRM.

On the Galaxy thing; they have a Windows only client and put exactly zero resources into improving the state of Linux as a gaming platform. Compare that to Valve with Steam and Proton. One of the reasons I think they donā€™t want to touch the Galaxy client for linux is because Galaxy has some Windows-centric proprietary coding in its guts.

I see both points yes valve has done wonderful things with proton, the steam deck, steam os and so on I also see them as still very locked down and very much wanting their steam os to be locked down to a degree. Whereas GOG is very open in nature since they don't tie you to having to use a front end like steam to launch a game you can just launch it, the no DRM is nice as well because while not open source it also not locked to having to ask for a license from steam or whoever that feels closer to FOSS than the steam way of doing things. I guess I just don't see how GOG doesn't embrace open source when they do have quite a big selection of Linux games and are DRM free at that.

The latest update on Nvidia DLSS coming to Linux gaming.... :-). Have you ordered a Steam Deck?

No. I am going to let it bake, maybe, hopefully, catch a discount later on. I have been burnt by companies one too many times for paying loads of money out of the gate to be a.... beta tester.

@RodneyCK I hear you on that, I have watched/heard of alot of people experiencing the early adopter pain and also being mislead (burned) by companies. I am also going to wait it out until the software/drivers have matured enough.

I put in a pre-order, but it was several days after the initial start for them, so I am towards the back of the line. It was $5 for a spot inline by the time it gets to me plenty of people will have had them in their hands and there will be real world experience for it, so I can know if I still want it by the time I get the chance to buy it. I like the idea of it, I am excited it is running Linux and arch at that, so I want to support it, but I also don't want to buy junk. I think it has the potential to elevate Linux gaming to new levels and possibly get game developers to at least give Linux some support that they didn't in the past. Hell Epic whose CEO has bashed Linux in the past is even softening up to Linux because of this device.

That is a good buffer to see if there are any issues. I think it is a great device and I will support it/buy eventually. I just have the vision of my father standing over me from the beyond, saying, 'don't buy a new car model, wait for them to improve it and iron out the bugs.'  :older_man:

I canĀ“t get a spot on the line in Brazil. But my US based cousin ordered for me and it's predicted for late 2022.

Yeah, before the delay I was q2 2022 now I am after q 2 2022. I am fine with it. I wasn't in a hurry for it, but it does stink.

The good thing like you write in your reply. You'll be missing the first batch of device and its early bugs and defects. Hopefully by the time you get yours they will have the manufacturing process/hardware issues resolved and any bugs in the software. ...cheers

Wine 6.23 Released With More PE Work, Wine 7.0-rc1 Up Next

Interesting....

So after reading that article it won't actually be for the chromebooks most people actually have since most of those would struggle to run an atari 2600 game much less a halfway modern steam game.

That is what I was thinking. They are not talking about the $200 chromebooks. Do they still sell the more expensive ones?
