Firedragon media playback messed up 11.17.4-2.1

It is normal the basic FD extensions get reinstalled (Dark Reader, etc.), but not on an upgrade. It should be only when you “install” the package.

You could try renaming your ~/.firedragon/YOUR_PROFILE/prefs.js and relaunching. This file gets corrupted sometimes, mine just did a few days before working on 11.17 upgrade and I had to remove one setting it is which didn’t make any sense with the issue I had but hey it fixed it.
However I don’t believe this will fix your issue, but it’s super quick and easy to try.

Tnx for the compare!
There is a substantial difference between the Audio issue and No audio issue.

I have no idea if it’s on the right track, but I find weird to see such a pattern.

Lemme check on mine!
EDIT: Nope, I have pretty much the same as you on 11.17:

EDIT2: What does your config media.hardware-video-decoding.enabled show in about:config for 11.17?

Me too# . Videos dont play. Only if you turn off uBlock, if turn on nothing work.

Here also youtube-videos doesn’t play and halfspeed sound on Heart of Space.
But other video-sites like vimeo works.
New profile didn’t solve the problem.

You are not able to click on this button?

In the meantime, I believe there is a clear issue upstream with Floorp:

Sadly I have the same issue. Youtube videos simply don’t load.
When I click the play button, the video just keep trying to load. The ads play fine though. I disabled uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger of course.

Here is my media section:

I can also confirm that reverting to 11.16 fixed the issue.

Sorry that I was unclear!
For 11.17
Videos start playing but shortly after it stalls, only showing that it tries to load.
Pressing play-button or a reload of the page have no effect. This affects youtube content, and I checked Vimeo to see if other video-content had problem. Also videos embedded on other sites works. Even those from youtube.
In 11.16 everything works.

For those where YouTube videos just stop indefinitely trying to load, could you please try playing the video in a private window or activating “Strong Fingerprinting protection” in the “Privacy & Security” settings?

Simply playing in a Private Window works for me.

This way it works. Fingerprint solve the problem for NORMAL Mode too. Ty and great Garuda Project!

Both private window and the fingerprinting in normal window makes it work

So, what about the strong fingerprinting makes it work?

Yep same thing for me. Both private mode or enabling strong protection against fingerprinting solves the issue.

I’m wondering the same here. Just enabling that option on version 11.17.4-2.1 with the default profile that was previously experiencing the audio issue, now clears it up after restarting the browser.

Just be aware that Fingerprinting will cause some other issues in other types of use cases, so it’s a double-edged sword. Once you are aware that FP can cause issues elsewhere, whenever you have an issue the first test would be to disable FP and if it works you can temporarily disable it for that specific use case and re-enable when you go back on Youtube.

This didn’t fix it, and neither did trying in private browsing in hearts of space.

“true”

While not the same bug, it definitely seems related, yeah, given as I’d shown, the same profile i had the issue on first has no issues at all in 11.16, no youtube issues, no HOS issues, no google and twitter trying to use an old layout, nothing.

Could everyone please try setting general.useragent.override to Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:126.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/126.0 in about:config?

EDIT: Of course please disable “Strong fingerprinting protection first” so as to get a clean result.

I will add to that: do not close and relaunch Firedragon after you made that change without testing first. If you only change that config in about:config, it will get overridden on the next app launch by the setting in either firedragon.cfg or firedragon.overrides.cfg if you use one.
