Thanks for the reminder - I was aware of it being archived but didn't change this thread yet
thanks for firedragon!
although I am using librewolf and firedragon in the meanwhile ( because I haven't migrated my librewolf profiles, and I have ... alot of them ( generally, each account per website is a new profile ).
In librewolf I have the "file / edit .... " menus but on firedragon I don't. Is this just me ?
Are you using the Global Menu on plasma? If not, then the menu will be hidden, press alt
to show it inside the window
I am using global menu on plasma. But yeah, on librewolf it shows being hidden and pressing alt, like firefox and some other apps.
But firedragon doesnât show on the window hidden, nor on the plasma global menu.
It also doesnât show when âright clickingâ on the toolbar: on librewolf it shows an entry about âmenu barâ. on firedragon, doesnât show anything. Same in the âcustomization pageâ.
Oops nevermind ... know why:
I am using firedragon on wayland ( native window ). Using it through xwayland makes the menu's appear...
I have to start thinking on the issue 1 day before posting ! Thanks zoeruda for your time !
EDIT: disabling ui.use_unity_menubar on about:config makes the menu back in the window. It would be nice to have it on global menu but its better than nothing ( and i am not gonna use it through xwayland )
So I can see what the focus of this browser is considering the base and extensions which show it's privacy focused, but how does it compare in terms of say loading a web page like YouTube etc to browsers like Brave browser?
For me as much as i respect the developer of this browser I must say that firedragon is a mixed bag for me.
On one hand I appreciate its privacy focus and built in extensions but on the other I cant help but point out issues I have faced:
1:
I use my browser for watching movies and such, disney, HBO max Amazon etc.
There is something included in firedragon that makes it difficult to play such content and videos just hang.
2: why cant this import my firefox settings directly? I actually use firefox as my main browser and I would like it not to have to jump through hoops to get my settings from firefox into Firedragon.
These are the two biggest annoyances so far, I seemed to have fixed the first issue by removing most of the extensions that came with firedragon with the exception of ublock origin but I had to manually import my profiles from firefox.
The import wizard needs to have a tweak for this for those of us who use firefox.
If a program does not meet my requirements, I use another one, browsers are a dime a dozen.
Besides, prime runs flawlessly for me.
I also do not remove any of the pre-installed add-ons.
True, I am just giving my honest opinions based on my experience.
Again its not like I dont appreciate the effort here, but as garuda's default OOTB browser I do feel there is some room for improvement.
As a non programmer I can only give the following suggestions:
Let users chose their extensions
and tweak the importer to import Firefox profiles.
As usual with Garuda, each developer makes his DE or app as he likes them. Suggestions are welcome but if for example add-ons are removed according to your wishes come two others who liked them and want them back.
I have never used an import wizzard, maybe it works for others as it does for me to play streaming services. Let's see what comes up.
Probably more or less the same as Firefox.
As for extensions we can probably remove some but they arenât baked into the browser anyways, they just get installed at first startup so you are free to remove them at every moment.
Unless someone else is willing to work on this, it probably wonât happen.
Well I wish I could⌠I have zero programming skills nor really want to get into programming.
I am just an end user sadly, sure I know my way around a computer and know enough to use linux and build my own machine, but programming was never my forte sadly.
Better at the hardware end LOL!
I don't think firedragon has any programming in it.
It's just some tweaks here and there.
All the work is done by mozilla and most of the tweaks are from librewolf.
This is the amazing thing about open source
To change something there is no need for always do it via programming
You just need to understand the mechanism.
Very true
is there any issue with just copying the profiles from firefox to firedragon ?
I didn't do it from firefox to librewolf, in other distros, as I have massive scripts to manage firefox and librewolf and qutebrowser profiles ( I am very nerdy about profiles, each website that has an account HAS a separate profile ).
But I did copy ( as with profile.ini file, or else they are invisible ) my librewolf profiles to firedragon, and everything worked nicelly.
since the difference between firefox -> librewolf -> firedragon are some patches for privacy and telemetry and what not, I don't see no reason as to just cp -av ~/.mozilla/firefox/* ~/.librewolf or ~/.firedragon
also ... appreciate the work on firedragon. librewolf and qutebrowser was what I was using before !
Since only the configuration path changes, this should be possible without issues. Its still Firefox after all
Whats everyone elses opinion on shipping less addons by default?
I suppose for the general user Dark Reader and uBlock should suffice, however I do think the others have a clear purpose in improving the browserâs privacy driven mission. You already made it much more usable by removing NoScript, the others are completely non-intrusive except for very special cases, and if you really donât like an extension itâs literally two clicks to remove it.
Hi!
Thank you for your efforts!
Are there an ability to install w/o any addons or w/ all addons (cause privacy is wanted feature, so I vote for all addons to be turned on), but the first start of the browser opens the tab w/ addons list making a user able to configure them on that initial start (very first usage)?
Like krusader
does: after initial start it opens GUI window of itâs configuration.
Bitwarden and "Grammar and Spell Checker LanguageTool", I would also like to have preinstalled.
well ... one thing of notice:
does firedragon enable "resist.fingerprint" by default ?
i think shipping with that enabled and canvas blocker is not good practice ( from what I read )
what I use is ublock ( must ) , localcdn ( almost a must but not a must ) .... and thats it
I used to use canvasblocker for a long time, but had some issues and just dropped it in favor of "resist.fingerprint"
