I don’t know what happened recently with my yakuake. I have tried downgrading it, uninstalling and reinstalling it.

This is where I am stuck:

$ yakuake
yakuake: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libKF6XmlGui.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZN16KStandardActions4nameENS_14StandardActionE

Maybe one of you gurus can point me in the right direction, thanks!

I just installed it, it works fine for me.
Try reboot.

Last full system update: 2024-09-19 ↻

and fix your

:slight_smile:

Check ls /usr/lib/ | grep libKF6XmlGui.so.6

 ls /usr/lib/ | grep libKF6XmlGui.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx     - root root  6 Sep 19:01 libKF6XmlGui.so -> libKF6XmlGui.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx     - root root  6 Sep 19:01 libKF6XmlGui.so.6 -> libKF6XmlGui.so.6.6.0
.rwxr-xr-x  906k root root  6 Sep 19:01 libKF6XmlGui.so.6.6.0

Yakuake start with F12 ?

My only idea would be that in the system of the OP there is another package, probably from the AUR which provides the same library.
Try a

pacman -Qo /usr/lib/libKF6XmlGui.so.6

I believe that normally it should be provided by kxmlgui 6.6.0-1

$ ls -l /usr/lib/ | grep libKF6XmlGui.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root        17 Sep  6 13:01 libKF6XmlGui.so -> libKF6XmlGui.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root        21 Sep  6 13:01 libKF6XmlGui.so.6 -> libKF6XmlGui.so.6.6.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root    906288 Sep  6 13:01 libKF6XmlGui.so.6.6.0

Looks like they have different dates on them compared to yours? Weird. Still not starting with F12 after updates and reboot :frowning:

$ pacman -Qo /usr/lib/libKF6XmlGui.so.6
/usr/lib/libKF6XmlGui.so.6 is owned by kxmlgui 6.6.0-1

Yessir that is where mine is provided too.

Are you perhaps using any git versions of KDE packages that may differ from a standard install.

Please post the output:

pacman -Qsq '\-git$'

Looks like there are quite a few?

Do you have konsole installed?

If not, install konsole and see if it starts correctly.

I’m not expecting you to convert to using konsole, this is simply for troubleshooting purposes.

Perhaps try installing yakuake-git.

I am using the Xfce Terminal, interestingly when I try to start Konsole, I get a similar error.

$ konsole
konsole: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libKF6XmlGui.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZN16KStandardActions4nameENS_14StandardActionE

Confused Jim Carrey GIF

I kind of thought that might happen, as yakuake and konsole are linked closely together in KDE. I was just curious to know if that would happen. That way when searching for answers konsole search hits could be treated the same as yakuake. Sadly their are not a lot of threads about this error message for either program.

Did you try the git version of yakuake?

1 Like

I test on KDE, no missing symbol on konsole or yakuake.
In the end, yakuake and konsole works for you? Or did you use another terminal :slight_smile: ?

The real problem in my opinion is probably that the OP is on XFCE, not KDE.
I’m sure there are many people successfully using KDE tools in XFCE, and also the OP did, I see. But KDE is KDE and XFCE is XFCE.

My bad, I was assuming the OP had KDE installed as it is the premier OS on the planet. :smiley: :wink:

Xfce has a built in drop down terminal - simply press ctrl + alt + t

I go through it in the addendum to my guide - methinks it needs shortening.

Nice, I never even knew about that lol. Strangely, I was using Yakuake on Xfce for at least a year and never had a problem with it until now…

I stumbled across it by accident. I have found it works flawlessly.
