What games do you play on Garuda?

run sudo pacman -S gzdoom

That should install the game as it is in the chaotic aur. I haven't played game, but it is there.

Good luck

Back in the Minecraft 1.7.10 days I was really into it, so much so that I was developer of my own HUGE mod pack FTBOP (free to be OP) which had 378 mods or so  AND I was server admin. 3 years of that and I got such MC burnout that I haven't touched it much until just a few months ago. 8 years? Now I'm playing ATM8, great mod pack and it's almost as large as mine was! Applied Energistics is the best mod ever made as I love to horde and fully autocraft everything possible. ATM8 is a completionist's dream! I'm also doing an ultra-hardcore vanilla playthrough so I can get my skills up yo.

Minecraft is good for building and chilling out, RImWorld is better for replayability and having stressful, tense situations (but in a good way) and makes you think WAY more!

Dragon's Dogma Arisen...bought this on a steam sale years ago. Forgot about it, didn't know much about it. Started playing and having a blast, a lot like Dragon's Age, that type of RPG. There is also a Netflix Anime series same title that is good and follows the game closely.

I bought a gaming laptop, and, just in my Favorites,
Book of Demons
Disco Elysium
Dominions 5 (native)
The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk
HOMM 3
Iratus (native)
Legend of Keepers
Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced (native)
Slay The Spire (native)
Torchlight II (native)
Tower Of Time (native)
War For The Overworld (native)

Here's a guide.

  1. Get Doom.
  2. Download GZDoom using sudo pacman -Syu gzdoom.
  3. Download Doom Runner using sudo pacman -Syu doomrunner.
  4. Configure Doom Runner to your liking.
[OPTIONAL] 4. Download some mods. I recommend playing the game first in vanilla. You don't need to beat it, the first 2 episodes are enough. Use a walkthru if necessary. You can find some mods at the ZDoom Forums and Doomworld.
  5. Make a new preset, with GZDoom set as the engine, and with the mod loaded.
  6. Have fun!

Here's how to turn Doom into an RPG.
How to turn Doom into a roguelike.
Some cool doom mods.

Brutal Doom and Project Brutality make the game much harder. Load only one at a time.
All the other mods mentioned make the game a lot harder. Some standalone mods (like SRB2) do not require doom and aren't compatible with doom mods. DoomRLA and its friends make the game harder at first, but you won't be able to let it go once you get in to it.

HAVE FUN!

Thanks guys! I ended up doing it the simplest way I could manage which was installing GZdoom and then opening various mod wads or pk3s by right-clicking and running them with gzdoom.ini. ( I struggled with the doomrunner a little bit and got build id errors in the crash process viewer)

That's what I love about Garuda. I barely know anything about how to use it to the fullest extent but can always manage a fairly simple workaround.

Hey all, I'm back again. I finally figured out exactly how to get Doomlauncher working on Garuda so you can load any kind of mods and map packs that you could possibly want. If there's anyone interested I can write a detailed hold-your-hand-every-step-of-the-way guide for other noobs like myself.

That would be fantastic!

I second this.

I'm playing Doom RPG using ZDL, setup is not ideal... :frowning:

Okay here goes. This aims to be as simple as possible so people, like myself, who barely know how to use the terminal can get Doom mods working using only the Garuda GUI.

1.) Use Octopi or your preferred package manager to download GZDoom and Doomrunner.

2.) Obtain Doom2.wad legally. If you own the game on Steam you can pull it from the local files.

3.) Locate GZDoom directory (mine was in /home/user/.config/gzdoom/). Create 3 folders named Maps, Mods, and iWads here. The iWads folder is where original Doom engine WAD files for standalone games go. Stuff like Doom, Doom2, Heretic, TNT, Plutonia, Freedoom, etc. should go here. I also put these same wads in the Maps folder so that I can access their map packs through Doomrunner. The .pk3 mod files you download will go into the Mods folder.

4.) Now fire up Doomrunner and the initial setup menu should load. This is where you enter the paths of the 3 folders you created. There is also the "Engines" section where you will enter the location of GZDoom's executable (mine was located at /usr/bin/gzdoom). Also, make sure to check "use absolute paths", "auto-update iWad list from directory", and "search also in subdirectories". Then click Done.

5.) Now in the main menu of Doomrunner you will create a preset for GZdoom. Select GZdoom as the engine in section 2. Select Doom2.WAD as the iWAD in section 3. Pick a map pack you want to play In section 4 (this can be either original Doom WADS or user-created ones from mod communities). Finally, add your mod .pk3 files to section 6.

note: if you're trying to play a total conversion mod like Ashes 2063, Bloom, Aliens: Eradication, etc you would skip selecting a map pack WAD because the maps are self-contained in the .pk3 file.

6.) Click launch and play Doom!

***If this doesn't work let me know. It took me a lot of fooling around for me to figure something this simple out so I don't remember every exact step I took. But this should work!

BTW, you can just drag and drop stuff from the mappack selector to the main mod panel.

It's good that you got it to work.

HAVE FUN!

BTW: You can you Wadsmoosh to smoosh all your IWADs into one IPK3. Pretty cool. Just don't delete the original IWADs and refund doom on steam lol

hey ya all! I have never really gamed on any personal computers I have owned but I have tried games like nfs, cs go and gta and I have found myself enjoying games that include car racing like nfs. Can someone recommend me a similar game that's the easiest to set up in linux?

Dirt 4
Project cars
Dirt rally
euro Truck

All games that run without any trouble getting them going.

Project cars is an awesome game if you like racing.

I guess I am trying it out this evening

BeamNG is also mad realistic, only the sounds are a bit bad.

Noita is also really nice, but really difficult

I see I guess that would be on my list after project cars since I am a complete noob at gaming and don't wanna jump with something difficult straightaway.

Shadow of War (without any problems)
