ghb fails to launch under wayland on terminal with debugging option enabled
ghb -x gives output pasted above , I have ven remade the package , it thought it was chaotic-aur fault , but it seems like issue in wayland

kind of looks like it couldn’t use your GTX 1650 and tried to use your integrated graphics and failed. I have launched handbrake successfully on my all AMD system with Wayland. I installed handbrake from the extra repository. If you need additional information feel free to ask. also if you are backing up dvds consider just making a direct copy .iso using k3b.

It launches easily on running

env GDK_BACKEND=x11 ghb

Something is not right with wayland on my system , i think wayland is not ready fro primetime

You might want to test out handbrake-git to see if it has any wayland compatibility improvements.

clearly Wayland is not the a problem as it launch on Wayland with no issues my AMD systems. so it is a system or compatibly issue. importantly it probably is Nvidia related and since they have historically had linux cooperation issues it would be on Nvidia frankly.

Considering it doesn’t take much more than a minute to install the git version it would seem silly to let preconceptions keep @cleanerspam from exploring all troubleshooting avenues available. That’s how troubleshooting remotely via the forum works. Even suggestions that don’t fix the issue are still helpful, as through the process of elimination the overall picture becomes a little clearer as to what the actual cause might be.

I am just clarifying something OP said. I also contributed an alternative program/use case and that extra repository handbrake worked for me. also I notice that you can’t say I am wrong in that.

Problem is not with handbrake , it is something wrong with my wayland setup because other apps too(Pamac) have failed to start in wayland but work nicely in x11

On x11 there is a different issue of uniform scaling some apps respect scaling and some don’t (require hacks)

For these reason I have booted back to the dark side (Windows) and will try again when I have energy or have forgotten my misery in Linux.

If you never actually followed my advice and installed the git version of handbrake, then it’s impossible for you to state that with certaintity. Sorry for asking you to perform such a difficult troubleshooting step, (that might have taken all of a minute to perform).

If you are unwilling to perform the single troubleshooting step suggested to you, perhaps you are really more suited to the Windows world. I hope you enjoy running the spyware that tries to pass for an operating system.

If you wish to return to Windows, fill your boots. There’s obviously no need for this thread any longer, so I’ll put put it to rest for you.
