Garuda-inxi from a live ISO

After running updates and rebooting I can no longer log into my system. Starting a wayland session leads to no signal to the monitors and starting a x11 session gives me a black screen with a movable mouse cursor but moving it is all it can do.

Switching to a tty (ctrl + alt + f#) just gives me a black screen with no text to log in.

I also can’t boot into a snapshot because keyboards seem to have quit working in grub.

Running snapper on a live ISO gives me a error saying “Failed to retrieve filesystem list”. Is there a way to manually restore a snapshot?

I am kind of at a loss as to what to try now.

Use live ISO, Garuda Welcome, chroot, or garuda-chroot -a in terminal, and upd again.

As always, backup your needed files.

This is what I get when trying to use garuda-chroot -a. /dev/sde is the USB thumdrive I booted off of with ventory. After this failed attempt I was able to mount the partition and browse the subvolume with dolphin.

It must look like this

sudo garuda-chroot -a
==> Detected systems:
 --> 0) Arch_Linux
 --> 1) Garuda_Linux
 --> 2) Garuda_Linux
==> Select system to mount [0-2] :

seems you miss the sudo.

BTW, 0-3 are Garuda :smiley:

I get the same output using sudo

I finally figured out how to mount btrfs subvolumes correctly and managed to chroot into my system manually. ran update, upd was a command not found, and update-grub. Neither one of those fixed the system but they did get my keyboard working in grub again, allowing me to boot and restore a working snapshot.

Thank you for the help.

Just an alias in fish (on many DE’s) for update = garuda-update.

Glad to read you could fix it. :slight_smile:

After a little investigating it turn out that the problem was because of the switch to dbus-broker by arch. It kept a huge list of systemd services from starting. Choosing to stay with dbus-daemon allowed me to update without breaking anything.

The keyboard not working in grub seemed to be cause by me rebooting with the reset button on my PC due to having no options to reboot gracefully. Powering the system down completely or booting a usb and then rebooting properly is what fixed my keyboard in grub.

This is number 2 in the selection?

I used the recommended number 1 everywhere and had no problems at all.

Well, experience is the best teacher, but then unexpected questions come again. :smiley:

Yes option 2 is the only one that worked for me. Option 1 seems to have broken dbus for me after looking at what depends on dbus. My install should be fairly stock Dr460nized Gaming with just a few things I used that weren’t included and a few things removed that I don’t use but nothing that should have any affect on dbus.
