Timeshift prevents me from upgrading

4xx Client Error 412 Precondition Failed

Not sure what's going on, but after a system upgrade all my Timeshift snapshots are gone, and when I try to upgrade the system with paru the following happens:

Garuda is installed on a btrfs partition, but I am using a secondary disk for /home, formatted as ext4.

How do I reconfigure timeshift so upgrading works again?

Not sure how that would help? The system is already up to date as far as pacman is concerned:

I “solved” it by uninstalling autosnap, pacman -Rc timeshift-autosnap before running paru -Syu.

Also, apologies for my weak search fu, the answer was apparent in this thread.

Hopefully it’ll all work as before, after I reinstall autosnap.

There are simple solutions and there are complex ones.
You have chosen an unnecessarily cumbersome one.

The timeshift autosnap package's configuration file let's you temporarily disable auto snapshots as well (without uninstalling the package).

It's all the the timeshift autosnap documentation.

As I wrote above that isn’t a solution since the system is fully up to date as far as pacman is concerned.

Even after doing the pacman upgrade, paru -Syu still errors out due to timeshift.

Thanks! This is a better hint for how to solve the problem:

  1. Open /etc/timeshift-autosnap.conf; skipAutosnap=false => skipAutosnap=true
  2. paru -Syu
  3. Enable autosnap again
  4. Done.

As far as I understand, you already solved it above with:

There was a problem that prevented timeshift to work, it was already solved in the repo, but the timeshift-autosnap prevented the update to complete successfully.
So there were 3 options:

  1. remove timeshift-autosnap and update (what you did)
  2. temporary disable it and update (as mentioned in your latest post)
  3. run sudo SKIP_AUTOSNAP=1 pacman -Syu which afaik does the same as 2 but without the need to re-enable
    The only difference is that you’re using paru for the update which is necessary of course for your AUR packages.
    What is unclear to me is why there was “nothing to do” in post #3. I hope you did it after the timeshift-autosnap removal + update, otherwise, it is really a mystery. But the problem is solved… :slight_smile:

The temporary bug with Timeshift has nothing to do with pacman. The process was interrupted by Timeshift due to a memory error. The best and fastest solution is in post 2 whatever you think or believe. For people with the same problem, your variant is much too cumbersome and therefore not the solution.
