Thunderbird authenticated but not connected

I have about 7 emails I oversee in thunderbird. My main email was compromised back in October(before I switched to Linux) from a data breach at a store I went to back in July. I found out because I was getting strange emails from stores I never heard of. So I made a new hotmail and deleted my old main one and shut it down and switched all my stuff to the new email but the new email will not open in thunderbird for some reason. I’ve deleted it and reinstalled it and every time I go through the process it never asks me to confirm my password in that pop up page that it usually does which is likely why it’s “authenticated but not connected” but either way I don’t wanna have to go to microsoft and log manually when I have all my emails right in front of me on thunderbird.

I tried reinstalling thunderbird, I tried deleting the email and setting it back up, I tried manual configuration(IMAP and all that), and I tried the network thing and that didn’t work either ): I also tried deleting the password or editing the password that it had saved and that didn’t work either x_x

You have not mentioned WHAT exactly you have set manually.

All M$ email services (hotmail/livemail/outlook) require OAuth2 - check that you have set this up correctly in thunderbird.
According to Mozilla these are the correct settings for hotmail in thunderbird:
incoming server is outlook.office365.com on 995 (POP) or 993 (IMAP)

and outgoing is:

I have those set but still get this

When I tried to set it manually was where I put the settings in myself. I also tried POP3 and got this which is also weird

Screenshot_20250208_194318

When I deleted the saved password and restarted thunderbird I got this page

but when I continue I roll back to the second image I posted above

Log in to your hotmail account via your browser and check all security settings. It is possible that something is disabled in the new account that was enabled in the old account. Also check “recent activity” → session type in the account, you may need to confirm that the access with the external mail client is yours.

I can’t find the session type under recent activity. I know thunderbird is listed under one of the apps I allow access to but one thing I do notice is that it doesn’t allow me to add a profile pic without the image basically becoming corrupted … xD Also some of the recent activity says I was on windows while others say I’m on Linux. I haven’t been on windows since November but perhaps that could be because I have to log into it manually from the web browser instead of the convenience of having them all in front of me on thunderbird.

I also tried getting my email on thunderbird after enabling 2 step verification and that also didn’t work ):

if I click on details it says something went wrong

can you try this as smtp Server Name istead?

I tried that one and it still doesn’t work.

I even attempted to make another email and connect that and that doesn’t work. I looked on the thunderbird website about 0auth2 and they said something about new hotmail accounts having SMTP disabled but it didn’t say how to enable it

yes you have to login in outlook email in a browser.
When you logged in you will see on right top corner a Settings Icon.
Look for Imap forwarding and enable it.

If @Duke187’s suggestion does not work, try disabling IPv6:
Thunderbird Settings → General → Config Editor (at the bottom). In the “Advanced Preferences” tab that opens, enter network.dns.disableIPv6 and change “false” to “true”.
Close and reopen Thunderbird and try again with hotmail.

ive deleted my account in thunderbird and reopen it .
i dont set any manually only my name email adress and password.
a new window pop up to login

and then need to accept it.
It went back to Thunderbird.
Loading settings.
Found and ask me how i want set up imap or pop.

ive select imap and its finish it without issues.

please check this and have cookies allowed in Thunderbird settings.
Just for testing i disabled it before i want to add an account again causes authentication error.just my thinking cant get the microsofts cookie token.

I managed to enable it but still get the same error. I had the network.dns.disableIPv6 as true and that also didn’t work ):

I never got the consent page because when I do it, it sends me to the confirm page which looks like this

It’s misleading because when I do the IMAP it says the configeration was found in the Mozilla ISP database but then after I finish it still fails to pull the mail and it only shows a single inbox which is also weird. So no outbox, sent, trash, etc nor can I email out of it.

Is the email you used new???

I also have the cookies enabled as well for microsoft

this is the “confirm” page instead of the “consent” page

Despite that I get the green

but only inbox which perhaps is a partial finish. The second email is also new just to see if it was just hotmail doing it

So no outbox, sent, trash, etc nor can I email out of it.

please deactivate it and try again.Because this can block to get the mails from the server.

yea isn’t that weird???

I deactivated 2 step after I realized it didn’t work.

DID YOU CHECKED YOUR OUTLOOK FORWARDING IMAP IS ENABLED?

so i did a new account for testing.
OUTLOOK block it so i did the change in outlook again for enabled it.
Started Thunderbird and it imports my messages and work.

if it not seen in your outlook account it was to login below the QR Code section in forwarding Imap.

this worked XD I actually did it backwards because I had an alias for my email that I had and tried to sign that one in but because the main is hotmail it didn’t work. Then when I made a fresh one with outlook, it worked just like you said  I gotta try to get them together and delete the extras so that I can get everything back on thunderbird and not have to use blue mail on the side which is what I did in a pinch before seeing your reply. Thank you so much for your time

Perfect :+1:

i have also a hotmail account and it did work. i had to do these steps in november last year to get my hotmail working. You have to do all this forwarding to every accounts from outlook.hotmail or even older mail adresses.

Please mark is as Solution if you want

No Problem youre Welcome in the Community =)

thunderbird had an update and I was able get my new main set up and delete blue mail xD I was thankful to have had it work because apparently google wants you to provide a phone number to make an email which is massive overkill whether it’s a main email or an alt. Thanks again
