I’ve had an ongoing issue that I encountered during a fresh install of Arch a month or two ago, and now seeing on Garuda. I’m not sure it is a Hyprland issue, as I saw it on Arch with both Hyprland and Sway. And a few weeks ago with the Garuda Sway version.

Issue: I can barely use a web browser. Firefox/FireDragon lags, everything on it has a slight delay or hesitation. Scrolling, videos, even moving the mouse. Menus open slowly. Frames are being dropped on YouTube videos, I’m guessing I’m not getting better than 15 fps.

The CPU at this moment is barely doing any work, 7%. Memory is 10% out of 24 GB. So no load on the system.

Even some actions in the terminal are slow. I’m comparing this to a Debian install I tried a few weeks ago with Sway as well as Fedora/KDE that I had installed for several months.

I’m using the latest Hyprland iso, installed this weekend. I’ve installed some software after install, but not much. I’ve installed Garuda hyprland on nvme drive with nothing else installed on that disk. No dual boot windows.

As you’ll see in the inxi output, I’m running the LTS kernel at the moment. I thought that might possibly help. No, it doesn’t. Same problem on Zen kernel.

Any thoughts? Is my 5 year old Dell just not up to the task? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

The issue is not your laptop but most likely wayland. Try these two posts and see if they help.

The second one talks about turning on ozone flag in brave and being able to use it with the only pain remaining firedragon. Hence why I linked it.

Your CPU can do 4GHz but you have it throttled down to .8 with the powersave governor:

Powersave is helpful if you are running a laptop on the battery, but since you have a desktop I would recommend setting it to performance and see if it helps with your issue.

Try enabling “performance tweaks” in the settings tab of Garuda Assistant.
