I was wondering if someone may be able to help me fix the strange fonts I'm getting when using Octopi installing packages. This is the kind of output I'm seeing with a string of squares shown after the asterisks:

Installing selected packages...

Am I missing a font package? I've search for solutions to this with no luck. If someone could please help.

Many thanks.

Have you rebooted after you updated?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, rebooted. It's a clean installation and fully updated with the latest packages. It displays this every time I install an app/software.

Any other thoughts?

Thank you.

Since you say you have now rebooted, please share a new garuda-inxi with us. And bracket it as well, please.

Apologies c00ter, I'm new to the forum. When you say bracket, how do I do that please. Is it the quote icon I need to click on and then paste the contents of garuda inxi?

There is all sorts of information available in the forum if you Search for it. The information on how to display your garuda-inxi was part of what you removed when you made your first post here.

Here are some basic posting rules. The part you want is: How to write a nicely formatted post in Discourse/Forum Please pay attention to the back ticks.

Aah OK, apologies for that, yes I should have searched before posting.

Hope this is correct now...

than

This person resolved a similar issue by installing a font package (technically I guess it sounds like uninstalling the conflicting package may have been what fixed it):

Just a stab in the dark here, but my dim recollection of similar past errors were solved by installing a specific terminal font. Which font(s), I do not recall. And I mean way dim.

Thank you for your reply and other above guys. Yes, I have looked into the above potential solution from @BluishHumility but it's not really giving me any real pointers. I'm also thinking I'm missing a font package but no idea which.

Anyone else any thoughts please?

This is an example...

Strange fonts installing packages in Octopi (Garuda Linux)

What font are you using?

I use Noto Sans in KDE Settings and Monospace (for fixed width). Konsole is Monospace also. I'm assuming the Output tab in Octopi uses the system font (Noto Sans)?

Try Hack font in KDE Settings, please. Use whatever the default is in Konsole (it should use system setting's). Don't forget to reboot.

Thanks for the suggestion @Bro but I have done this and still the same result when using Octopi. Any other suggestions please?

Try downloading the Nerd Font version of the fonts you use. They have tons of symbols and glyphs built in. It is possible Octopi is asking for a symbol that your font package does not provide.

Tried downloading various Nerd Fonts and rebooted. Still the same result :-(. No issues with Manjaro or Arch previously or any other distro come to think of it. I want to stick with Garuda. Just one of those little annoyances but not a deal breaker but baffled.

Have you at least tried this?

Yes tried that @Bro
