Ok sounds good.
And yeah, I have all that turned on too. Still getting game crashes. I’ll just be patient and hopefully a fix will hit my updates soon.

Hello everyone. This is my first post. Hope you solved this problem.
I have the same problem yet. I’m playing games in steam on garuda linux since november2023 using proton-ge-custom but in last 5 or 6 days i got my first crash like you said it before. I tryed search about one solution, read a lot, watched some videos…
I have a temporary solution using this command in launch options (Steam):
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
But this made my graphics worse than before (I dont like it)
So i’m trying to get a better solution
I’m using AMD CPU and Radeon GPU
["Forget this"UPDATE 10MAY2024] I managed to downgrade kernel to 6.8.8 like some players sugested. To noobs in linux like me, I wrote in konsole:
Sudo downgrade linux
(than i choosed a kernel 6.8.8 and rebooted computer)
*Game worked with good graphics but got a fatal crash! Maybe i selected a bad kernel. I dont know. I’m testing what is better.
[UPDATE 10MAY2024 at night] I’m sorry if you got similar to me, i dont know what happened. Something crashed and i cant rejoin in garuda. So I’m doing a full reinstall of Garuda…
[UPDATE 10MAY2024 at night, after reinstall]
I’m playing New World, i’m using at moment Kernel 6.5.9-zen2-1-zen (amazing graphics)
Idk if it’s appropriate, but from someone incredibly poorly versed in the space of how linux works, I’m just being a +1 to the topic of games not working. At first it was an update (because of Discord’s ‘it’s your lucky dayyyyy’) that managed to get my OS bricked. I wasn’t going to try and troubleshoot, so I went nuclear on the partition and reinstalled Garuda. I can’t play almost my entire Steam library. I had most games on separate SSDs, so that was wonderful for my WiFi, but then nearly none of the games worked and I reinstalled most. Nothing worked, except Cities Skylines for some reason
Hopefully it’s a fix just one update away
In the threads above there is a link saying a patch got pushed, but I don’t know when we will see it on our public branch. Hopefully soon. I know it seems stupid but I am going to Dreamhack Dallas in a couple weeks and really need my games to work haha. Its a crapshoot right now which ones do and which ones don’t. And this is after enabling re-sized bar and 4g decoding.
Thanks man, your update fixed me for now.
I will also wait for the update to hit. I will follow this.
I’m having trouble donwgrading, i follow your steps but when i restart my computer the version stays the same, do I need to do anything else?
You have to select the downgraded kernel before boot or you can change your boot options with Garuda Boot Options.
Correction, I don’t think you can do it from Garuda Boot Options, but for me, when I restarted my system, there was a new option available just called “linux”. That is the one you want.
Thank you, I’ve managed to downgrade my kernel.
I updated my info. It is working to you guys, as well?
No issues since downgrading the kernel but I will update if that changes.
Thanks, i followed every other suggestion and this is what did it for me although i did use the linux-amd kernel not linux.
Thanks all, setting Resizable BAR in my BIOS did the trick. Took me a bit to find the option because I had to enable a couple of 4G options first, but I’m all set now.
Hello, have the same problem since last week. Had played before the update COD MW 2 and did it to the Mission Cliffhanger when I wanted to continue playing two days after the update, the game crashed in one. Other games have not been running since then.
Cod Ghost+Multiplayer
COD Black Ops
COD Black Ops III
Cod Infinity Warfare
as well as cod 2 and 3
and COD Modern Warfare Remastered from 2017
Had tried to get everything up the past few days, including reinstalling the games and Steam.
You did not provide garuda-inxi, nor what you have actually tried. Some suggestions here were enabling resizableBAR (and some 4G options) in BIOS/UEFI, and trying a different Kernel.
I had forgotten sorry because I had to work with translator and it was late. I had installed everything and set it up again, and the Proton packages were uninstalled and newly set up.
I also tried an LTS kernel that was recommended, but didn’t help.

Hello mate, you are using Kernel: 6.8.9-zen1-2-zen. That kernel is crashing every game
You should use other kernel more older. For example: 6.8.8 or other before.
I did a full install of Garuda (A full install i deleted everything). At moment i’m using 6.5.9-zen2-1-zen (a native kernel from Garuda KDE Dr460nized.
I’m just playing New World, so i didnt tested others games. It is working very well (good graphics)
Hi, yes in front of the current kernel everything was okay, I do a clone of my SSD and test another kernel. I want to avoid re -setting up the system because there is a lot of work in the current configuration.
UPDATE:
Under Garuda Settings / Kernel
I can’t choose the 6.5.9-Zen2-1-Zen. First of all, I am waiting for an update of the current kernel, which will surely come at some point.
Did you downgraded your kernel?
