Reinstalled Garuda with open source drivers only

So after an update from last week that knocked me off my feet being stuck on max brightness I have reinstalled Garuda. I tried to check on here and in my other topics to try and figure out what I did that caused me to have brightness control even if it was just for a short time. I even came across one on endeavorOS which is what I have on my old laptop currently but even those didn’t work ):

I genuinely thought the endeavor one would help me since that person has almost the same computer as me but if I can only remember which one fixed it that would be useful. One thing I did learn was that when I edit grub in the command line I had to update it and that’s probably why that brightness = 50% or whatever was stuck on my kernel parameters. But if worse comes to absolute worse I can just get a screen protector to help dampen the brightness a bit

Shades are much cooler. :sunglasses:

with the few kernal parameters I tried the most I got on discreet now is that when the laptop goes to sleep or I put the laptop down to sleep then it doesn’t come back and just stays with a black screen but I used the snapper to take me back to before that happened even though it still happens … xD

On the topic of the shades, I have to get a new prescription when I get my eyes checked again and just make sure I pay the extra for the blue light protection. I would have gotten it last year but I opted out because my plan rejected it and then I had to make an out of pocket payment that I didn’t expect to have to do … xD

in a miraculous turn of events I managed to get my brightness fixed and on hybrid this time which means I don’t have to switch to discreet to get it to work or even tinker with it further. I find that combining the use of acpilight and brightnessctl worked the most but I also saw another passage that mentioned installing mesa while incorporating the use of the kernel parameters amdgpu.backlight=0

Of course we will see how long this lasts considering I only got a month out of nvidia before things got bad after an update. And it unironically ended up being an update that ended up fixing it for me. Same amount of time too about 3 days after the install interestingly enough. While it’s difficult to track my entire process despite attempting to narrow it down after failed attempts to throw spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks, I do hope this is helpful to another who is in a similar position to me
