Quite the classic skit that has been referenced in a lot of shows. I should hope most people know about it, one way or another :grinning:

I do not catch on!

Uff what a hectic week. Just had completed my end sem exams today and also got an internship offer from harman in embedded c++ (yay  ) completed its interview yesterday. Had applied off campus. Hope the internship converts to FTE :crossed_fingers: atleast the HR said they have a 95% conversion rate. Just don’t know why they are so rushed they want me to join them on site by next monday for some reason. Plus they want my 3 month bank statement for some reason…?

Well for what it’s worth I will spend the next few days rushing bangalore joining the office and trying to find a pg hopefully close to my office. But every single one is so expensive… The good one’s cost 15000 inr (equals my stipend) and the cheapest one’s are 10000inr. Looks like I will be facing some severe cash crunch for next few months.

Congratulations! :clinking_glasses:

That sounds like a scam! I hope it is not though… :grimacing:

I too hope it’s not. I applied from harman’s website hosted by myworkdayjobs. I have applied for several other companies using this same hosting for jobs previously too. Plus the interviewer looked like he was in some office cabin. and he and hr had profiles on linkedin. Well for what it’s worth I haven’t given my bank statements yet. I have decided to wait for my authorization letter and to visit the company before doing that.

EDIT:

So an update on this :eyes: . The internship is real. I had my first week of taking a dip in the real world of adults. Got to the office, took the offer letter, signed a bunch of nda’s, signed a form saying I didn’t have EPF before nor do I wish to join one right now, signed a form saying whatever inventions I have under my patent basically belong to the company unconditionally now and this is apparently common practice in corporate world :upside_down_face:. I have been working 9-6 + 2hrs travelling basically the time a full time employee works for a third of their salary was this the reason they were so rushed for me to join I wonder.

The week has started pretty easy all things considered, I have basically spent first week getting myself a dying thinkpad from the company (something they give all interns) its missing it’s iconic red nipple from the mid of keyboard (it’s broken) and the up arrow key is broken, currently using keypad without numlock to utilize the up and down functionality and apparently the keyboard randomly decides it needs to send the up signal to my system. It’s got winblows on it because apparently even their wifi needs microsoft account to sign in (I am not kidding :scream: wifi literally has a use windows account to sign in option) and guess what all their repos and tools need to be cloned in wsl ubuntu :upside_down_face: because their sdk’s (gnu eabi) and tools won’t work on winblows. :joy:

I and the six other interns with me have spent time using their static code analysis tool to find and fix errors which is fairly easy to be honest lol. I have managed to rizz the girl in my batch with my linux skills :sunglasses:. I guess they will start giving us some real work to do from the next week onwards. Honestly would have preferred to work from my own laptop rather than theirs if everything that they have wasn’t so locked down in microsoft. Their laptop literally dies if it’s touched a little too hard and look at mine it’s survived a crash from my bag to the floor and I just crunched it’s back-plate on and it’s working as good as ever.

Well apart from all this I am just quite boggled at world. I am shifting to a PG tomorrow, been living in a really good guest house thanks to my dad up till now (seriously he is a superman ) and what I am boggled at is I receive my monthly stipend from the company at the end of the month yet I need to pay my rent at the start of every month (i.e, in advance) at pretty much any place in the city. seriously if I hadn’t been as privileged as I am I would have been on the streets for the first entire month :scream:. But honestly goddamn I thought after I got an internship I would not have to be dependent on my parents for at-least the next 6 months but I guess the world proved me wrong and honestly at some point asking for money from parents just feels embarrassing. It feels like you are a bum.

Well apart from all this I also got my first taste of taxes. Yeah I am literally making 15k/month for only 6 months as a stipend the overall money I would be making from this would be way below the taxable income range but I still have to face 10% TDS :eyes: because internship is considered contract work. Seriously, I know I can apply for a tax rebate at the end of fiscal year but why do this at all? A lot of companies don’t do any TDS for intern stipends and even karnatka high court (the state my office is based in) says internship stipends are not taxable and sees them as scholarships yet my company is doing this…

A post was split to a new topic: Fix PSD (profile-sync-daemon occasionally) failing to sync the browser profile due to a rather short systemd default timeout

Oof another post here huh… I feel like I am using garuda forum for more offtopic chit chat than helping anyone… :eyes: . Welp anyway, fast forward to another week spent at internship and I would say the work is pretty easy. Too easy to be honest.

All we have to do is fix warnings generated by their internal tool running static code analysis. Well that’s just me. We have had a few more interns join us over the course of this week. We have increased from measly 3 to 5, 1 more is on the way so we should be 6 interns in total.

The thing is for some reason I have been assigned the defacto guy to help all these new joinees setup their system for some reason… why? Well that was still fine and all but the newest intern to join us is a god damn help vampire. :slightly_smiling_face:

He literally after every every two minutes of staring at any warning is like “what should I do with this?” like man think a little use your brain, use google but no let’s irritate everyone else. :expressionless: The guy doesn’t even know how to use git and is worried about how to push code. Like dude calm tf down and look at the bugs you are generating worry about writing correct code first but no why should he. I am just hoping he or I am assigned a different team soon so I can have my peace and quiet or I might have a meltdown due to this guy.

Welp apart from all this their crappy old thinkpads haven’t helped a lot either it takes a full hour to run this analysis tool to generate reports on their goddamn glitchy dying laptop. Thankfully they provided us all with access to their AWS EC2 instance with no instructions whatsoever on how to use it… :eyes: and apparently no senior dev needs to use it either since the laptops they have been provided is good enough. :crying_cat_face:. Well anyway I figured out how to set it up on my own and set up password less ssh login to it and connected it to the vscode on this thinkpad and since then life has been a little easier. I am not spending hours just to generate warnings anymore. :smile_cat:

Hmm… just think of a lazy guy who is called Hyprland co-maintainer here :skull_and_crossbones:

What a sh**t !!
He doesn’t know how to use git ?
I wonder how does he got the internship ?
:metal:

Summary

No offense , just a small wrap
Not disrespecting anyone

You are not alone on that… But I guess it’s not surprising either. All the other interns with us are either currently pursuing masters degree or already completed it we two are the only one’s with bachelors here and none of them apparently ever interacted with git before either… :eyes:

Well atleast they are willing to learn and explore on their own. :person_shrugging:

Mmm… I thought that these things goes hand in hand with time

That’s good thing :slightly_smiling_face:
Better than a help vampire :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it’s an interesting read on what modern software engineers endure in a highly competitive environment. There was no such thing as “internship” when I grew up and entered the workforce. There was, however, something called “on the job training” (OJT) which presupposed the trainee had minimal/no knowledge of the position or responsibilities.

My first job out of the US Navy was OJT starting as a loan clerk (using the GI Bill), leading to a manager position upon successful completion of the 2 year training period. It was something my employer and I put together, with VA approval. It benefitted me, because I got an entry-level job leading to a better future position, and my wages were subsidized by the government so my employer benefitted doubly.

They still do exist. I applied for zafin a company providing software solutions in the finance sector. They were hiring for FTE no internship so training was to take place in first 5-6 months as you do the job. I cleared 1 online test, 2 coding PI, 1 HR round, 1 GD and in the end got rejected at the final managerial round. Like wtf…? I wasted two entire days on this sh… Sitting in the hall from morning 8 to night 10-11… Some interviews just makes you question if the company even wants to hire.

Well anywho they still do exist infact they are the norm for mass recruitment companies like accenture and IBM and TCS just their numbers have reduced a lot of companies are coming with internships now a days. Not sure if this has anything to do with recession or not. :person_shrugging:

Recession may be a national or regional problem. Right now the U.S. economy is about as bullish as it gets—DJI, NASDAQ, etc.–after the Fed’s future rate-cut announcement yesterday. That means investors will move from dollars to stocks//bonds/gold whatever will give them a higher anticipated yield.

slowly backs off

If you gonna say that, then I am here just to block anyone from using this username!

Why do you think I requested a forum nick change from c00ter to Bro? It was a preemptive strike. I hate it. I can even watch certain South Park episodes because of its use. I am bro@notyourbro.

Somebody says “Bro” in this forum, and watch out 'cause “I got this.”
