Off Topic Chit Chat - (Silliness factor 5)

In place of reddit i have used discord, but for a week only  . I didn’t got interested in anything.
And for youtube, I would say I have actually kept subscribed some of the linux related channel like ā€˜mental outlaw’

So in all in all you are a big challemger for me, you got 2/10 score pf noobness

Since our state from which we have come is same and our many characteristics so if I would have to know what is gonna happen to me in future then I can predict it by looking at what happened to you

Ok, long storie short I did not delete FB, because of marketplace, humor and a linux group.

It’s definitely not coming back on my phone.

I have definitely set my standard higher now in terms of what I use daily.

Instagram can be good if you only watch what you want to watch…
For example, you’re interested in Linux then just follow those who make something about Linux.
Stay away from the friends stories and stuff if you don’t like it…
Anyways deleting is always good (I have) if you want to focus on something.

I never truly realized how tough package management is until I tried it yesterday myself. Netbeans is flagged out of date in arch repos and it’s stuck at v16 when v19 has come out already. I wanted to be up to date so I git cloned the source files from the repo and looked at the pkgbuild file myself. Changed version number to 19 and tried to run.

Got the files failed the checksum. Updated the checksum from the sha256 being used to the sha512 available on apache’s website. Retry this time PGP check failed. It kept throwing error of some public key not recognized. I looked at the pkgbuild again and saw that this PGP key was a part of validpgpkeys function. I again reached the apache’s website and updated the keys/pgp dir with all the .asc files containing the latest keys and updated the function in the pkgbuild as well. Again no dice with same error.

After a while of troubleshooting I just thought why bother I already confirmed the sha512 let’s skip this it should work fine (premonition). This time build failed with some weird cargo.rust not found error. I was confused what happened, I questioned weather I am truly compiling the netbeans IDE or something else entirely. Went around and found out the build instructions have changed. Updated those in the build function and after a lot of downloading and about 15-16 minutes of compiling it again crashed with no apparent error logs this time.

Went in the src file and tried to debug using ant -debug which ultimately still amounted to nothing… Finally frustrated I just rm -rf * the repo and got the precompiled ā€œplatform independentā€ binaries from apache’s website and stored it in ~/.local dir made it’s .desktop file and had a working netbeans 19 this time.

Then I realised I could have just modified the pkgbuild file to pull this the entire time instead of compiling it myself from the source following the original pkgbuild…

I wanted to go more in-depth with it. So here we go.

Basically I am asking. How come, an app on a phone can do whatever it wants, unless it is directly stealing money from someone and gets a pass (in the green)?

Say… electrical devices, pots and pans, home appliances need to accord to the regulations. It makes sense too. You don’t want to eat food cooked on a chemical infested pan nor do you want to be electrocuted when you using a tool at home.

So, we know that TikTok kinds are ā€œattention seekers.ā€ We know they are not good for the psychology & health of younger people. So why is it so that anything released on the web can be applied to our countries, to our people, without any quality control? That’s my original question.

Apps like TikTok, should get a year in testing and review before let to the public.

All this ā€œstuffā€ is new but whats the point of all the science and collective wisdom when it isn’t applied anywhere, where it matters?

I’ll leave it at that.

This thing is already banned in India .

IDK why other countries like too much tuctok

Sometimes I feel like ranting about something but then it feels like my arguments are way offtopic of the forum itself or just too small of others :slightly_frowning_face:

Summary

All of my friends are in college just I am the exception who is trying a drop and when I will be thinking of taking admission in a college then they will be in 2nd year of college :slightly_frowning_face: ,
Is it really worth to try hard or was it better to take admission into a private college like them ?

Last year was terrible, put all myenergy in it, burned my eyes day and night and after all when I saw the result, it was heart breaking  , it went all into nothingness…

Maths is easy as long as it’s not integration, probability or statistics… Ah horrible flashbacks incoming system aborting.

Probability is OK, you need to remember that is not exact (but it actually is, but it is not), integration is very rarely necessary for solving entertaining or ĀØpuzzleĀØ math problems. Statistics is just dull and boring and tedious, I can not think of anybody doing those for fun :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I am 38, but some of my problems include:
Remember to pack emergency diapers (just in case)
Do not let the cats play with the catheter!
The machines sometimes extract more than what they were programmed to extract, do not fall asleep.
Also, you are lucky, I can not urinate standing, and sometimes, I can not urinate at all! XD

It doesn’t start off as hard. It hides it’s fangs and then strikes you when you are least prepared for it. prob. starts off with a simple formula that can be applied to solve all questions and stays that way for a very long time. Come boards (final two years of school) probability suddenly has permutation, combination, factorials in it and we are dealing with probability of an event E happening provided Q happened and more…

True this part is just memorizing formulae.

Yeah, and that is just the top of the iceberg
Remember, it is probability, but the complexity of the equation depends on what you are trying to figure. It is not really probability’s fault, it is yours XD

There are times when I have intense staring contests with my books/computer screen only to realize that what I am thinking about has nothing to do with the problem I am solving…
