Have you decided what you wanna learn after this? btw, if you don’t mind me asking how did you apply for the apprenticeship? Like from a website like wellfound or smth or straight from the company’s career portal. Wouldn’t mind inserting entries of useful websites in my database of knowledge.
I think we can’t compare German standards to Indian ones. I already noticed you guys seem to have a much more pressurized environment concerning such things (like having to score in tests to actually be relevant) - though I’m not sure how much of it applies to you. In Germany, apprenticeships are actually not really hard to get and most people pass the final exams easily. The one I’m currently taking is basically teaching general IT knowledge and sysadmin stuff (I think it would translate to IT specialist in system administration). Most people were coming from regular schools and started the apprenticeship with no real tech knowledge, one guy mentioned running a (paid?) Minecraft server as already having done administration iirc I received my apprenticeship via someone I knew, so no real advice to give to you on this topic Also, IT personnel is highly requested here btw, so finding a job might not be that hard from what I heard.
My work place is an MSP which mostly provides Windows servers/clients and Microsoft services, so I’ll absolutely be looking into getting into a job which involves Linux only, automation, preferably applying IaC and DevOps culture as soon as I’m done (~1,5 years) !
A Microsoft Powerpoint? :DDD
Please say that it was a joke
I don’t think it was
Well, because it is not that easy to get one!
Let me tell you my case.
So, I am pursuing Btech ( equivalent to Bachelors of Engineering ) in Computer Engineering in a Tier 1 college in India. Its acceptance rate is less than 0.7% for Computer Engineering branch.
At our college, the 6th semester is an internship semester, i.e., you have to either do internship or some research work under professor, if you don’t get minimum 18 weeks internship. ( Semester is from January 2024 to July 2024 )
Though I have much technical skills and experience, good programming skills with multiple languages, C/C++, Python, Java, Rust, Javascript etc. , experience with various web technologies as well as AI, basically almost everything you might want on an intern’s resume, it is really hard to get decent internship.
I mean, there are some internships available, but they pay peanuts ( less than $500 a month for full time internship ). I am having a really tough time searching a decent enough internship to be honest.
Yeah, it’s right in these colleges only some student’s which are on top most are selected, which are even less than 1% of total students , there is another person from some well know prestigious IIT colleges near my neighbour , He is also not able to find a good job for him.
Every chance you get you either take it or leave it.
I think most internships pay small amounts. I’d take the internship because where else are you going to get the experience?
Other option. If you have done X amount of projects. Why not start a business or even side hustle as they call it? It might take years to realize business. People have no idea.
P.S I don’t work in IT but I have used IT tools and services in real scenarios. Mostly, I don’t believe there is any difference. The projects need “balanced” enough people to do the work. Communication skills and awareness what other people want is something we seem to forget at times.
Yeah, I agree, and obviously I will be doing internship. I wanted to say that it is not easy to get decent internship.
Regarding experience, it matters a lot the company you get an internship. In big tech giants, doing internship provides really really good experience, as compared to early stage startup or 'small unknown company ’
I am trying hard enough to get some decent internship. Else, I will have to do in some company.
Not planning on one right now. Maybe, after some experience in field, I may think about my own business/startup. But am looking for internship for now…
Hmm… I thought I am the only one who is getting bald bit by bit at such young age but I am not rhe only one
Yeah, almost all boys in my hostel are the same if not worse. There are more ppl with receding hairlines in my college than without and that’s not counting the staff. So don’t worry you are certainly not alone.
Same here, I’ve got so much forehead now that I believe it’s technically a five-head.
You still have hair, you lucky ones.
Well I believe almost all men have to be ready for this future. I certainly am .
Oh, hell, there’s a few of us here, that if we ever met up IRL, we’d slug each other in the shoulder then go have a (or ) together. (Only curtsies & beers to the feminine members of that small group, of course.)
And if SGS suspected anyone might try to tickle the tiger’s toe, little ol’ moi might be on his short list.
Factually, nothing could give me more pleasure than if it were possible to travel to the U.K. & Europe to visit my forum friends. Nothing.
Reminds me of my cat, Radical, who has ears like a fox and a head like a bat.
Hey Bro! You should come to India too, it would be cheaper here.
Sometimes, I forget how elder you are. I should be addressing you with respect. In India, I would have addressed you with sir or probably uncle…
I have been calling any elder with an age gap roughly more than 15 years, uncle or aunty.
Is that weird, or is it common everywhere in India?
How do you address the elders in America or Europe?
I have heard they just call you by name, no matter how old you are. Is that true?

Old white men = Assholes
White means here the hair color.
But they usually only mean men in dubious positions of power, such as in politics.
The rest they call, grandpa’s , Opa ('s) in German.
