The only thing that confuses me is when someone points at another person--someone whose gender is easily, visually, notable--and says something like, "look at them."

No, they are one and the same, physiology says. That is science–a fact. And it never varies (unless you’re my friend Chuck–a true hermaphodite.)
Psychological differences may vary, however.

It's a bit more complicated if you consider genetical defects like trisomies, where people can have XXY, XYY or even Triple X chromosomes.
