(Me casually searching word cannabis because I didn’t know what it was!)

To clear up the supposed misunderstandings.

Cannabis (lat) corresponds to the Hindi (Sanskrit?) word Ganja (गांजा).

Okay, we know Ganja (Hindi word)

Cannabis comes in three variants: Indica, Sativa and Ruderalis. Ruderalis is at home in Sibiria and has no THC (or next to none), Sativa gets huge and has plenty, Indica is not as big but also develops plenty mind-altering substance.

I personally have given up smoking weed after various drug-induced paranoid episodes.

There is also Cannabis badensia. “Baden grass - spoiled by the sun”. (based on the commercial Baden wine - spoiled by the sun). Baden - Wikipedia
An essential ingredient for making beer is hops, also an hemp plant.

All in all it’s a great plant with many years of both recreational, industrial and cultural use.

I am very glad my government finally gave legalisarion a shot.

The nifty thing about Ruderalis is it is auto-flowering and can be crossed with whatever high-THC plants. Auto-flowering meaning, it is not the amount & time of lighting that causes it to grow flower (bud).

Hey, I’m the newbie on Indian culticure. I only found out about Bhang & how it is made because of Microsoft. Yes, Microsoft.

Bing’s picture of the day said it was about Holi & gave a link. I had heard about bhang, but not much. However, the cannabis person I am was curious. From there on it was, “The Rest of the Story” time.

Party on India! :fist:

Well, I am currently living in west part of India, I am newbie in terms of culture of North, South , extreme east part of India :slightly_smiling_face:

You will always be newbie here, I still find hard to understand what my neighbors are saying in their own mother tongue, they will have to always to talk to me in Hindi when they want to say something to me :slightly_smiling_face:

After every mile you will find some new dialects or even a new language here  :
But Majority knows Hindi and English so things are still not difficult

Will always be … :sunglasses:

It is unfortunate that India has not yet managed to agree on a national language.
The same applies to the Philippines.

In contrast, one of Indonesia’s maxims is: one country, one people, one language (Bahasa Indonesia).
Mind you, over 250 regional languages are spoken in Indonesia.

Yea, I grew a Royal Jack (Autoflowering Jack Herer) once. It’s good if you wanna just let it grow and don’t care, but in my xp, a well bent and trimmed feminized in a tent will give you much more g per money spent.

Ahh… Seriously we can’t do this here , just if I ask chatGPT , I get

The exact number of regional languages in India is difficult to determine due to various factors such as dialect variations and evolving definitions. Estimates range from 122 to 220 [languages in india].

  • The Indian constitution recognizes 22 major languages, which are known as scheduled languages [languages of india].
  • These languages have official recognition and encouragement from the government.
  • The 1991 census of India identified 1,576 classified mother tongues

It is not easy to do such things here, everything is just too much varied and different that one single rule can’t be implemented, if we will start doing such things then India won’t be democratic anymore for many peoples

Basically here you will have respect all religions no matter whether it is Hindu, Muslims , Christians, Jains, Sikhs , Buddhist , Jews …etc…etc (even tribal communities )
And same goes with way of living of each individual, the language, culture…

It is easier to provide Multiple language options in our computerized exams than giving one single language the only priority . It is just impossible to have something like that here , that’s what I can think of …

Of course, what works in Indonesia does not necessarily apply to India.

PS: The other maxim is: Unity in diversity.

What if any one language, say French, German, Spanish, or even English… (All are equally important) is made the National language of Europe (assuming Europe hypothetically becomes a country).

As you can see, the population of native speakers of a language in an Indian state is similar to the population of native speakers of a language in a European country. Now what will you do?

Hindi might seemingly be the most spoken language. But you can’t justifyingly claim that any other constitutionally recognised language is not spoken by a majority.

Even though many Hindi speakers might claim their native language is Hindi, their actual mother tongue or dialect might be something else. Many Indians whose mother tongue might be languages like Maithili, Haryanvi, Rajasthani, Bhojpuri or any other, though distinctively unique (you would not understand one even if you know Hindi), would consider themselves as Hindi speakers only.

That’s why Hindi has such a huge population of speakers. Sadly, these dialects are losing their importance and preference over Hindi or even English.

Hindi and English are India’s official languages used for official purposes, and most of us are taught both of them along with our mother tongue in the schools.

If you ask me to list languages in ascending order of my proficiency in them, I would shamefully do as
English > Hindi > Malayalam (my mother tongue).

Don’t get me wrong, I love Hindi and English; both are beautiful languages. But learning, preserving and appreciating your mother tongue is very important.
I intend to improve my proficiency in Malayalam soon.

LOL. I cannot even imagine how it would look like if you’d try and force the French to use English, God forbid it’d be German xD

I think they tired themselves out with Napoleon xD Though WW1 they did “actually” win. And WW2… well, Russia&Britain would have fallen too without 1. massive support from USA and 2. incredibly dumb mistakes on Hitler’s end. So… maybe not entirely France’s fault, though partly of course. De Gaulle did warn years before the war started that just building walls wouldn’t hold up against the rising German Reich.

That’s a bit much.

In RI, every child learns their mother tongue in primary school. It will probably the same in India.

Balinese children also learn Basa Bali in religious education. And there is a lot to learn: Three language levels plus Kawi (Old Javanese).
As you know, the Balinese religion (Agama Dharma Hindu) is an independent form of Hinduism recognized by India with elements of Buddhism and animism.
