Occasional System crashes while trying to shut Laptop down

The laptop frequently freezes and crashes when trying to Shut it down or reboot it. Only fix to it is to hard shutdown it. The situations where it happened:

  • Trying to shut it down via the terminal
  • Via the log out menu
  • via the physical power button on my laptop
  • (Rarely) While updating the system
  • (Rarely) while normally using the system

Such crashes however do not occur when doing compute intensive work

Fixes I tried :

  • Trying different kernels ( Zen , LTS , Mainline )
  • Switching from Wayland to X11 and vice versa
  • Looked up the arch wiki for this laptop to find this kind of issue
  • Checked for any potential software incompatibility
  • Checked Garuda forum and reddit for solutions ( Didn’t find anything until a few mins ago)
  • Could be a duplicate of this issue Having issue while shutting down the system - #5 by stain

Please let me know if I missed anything or you need some additional information

Please let me know if you need me to do any kind of potential tests or experiments for this , I would be very happy to help.

I had a similar issue (not 100% same). It was caused by Nvidia drivers.
You can read my thread on it if you want to further diagnose:

The issue is quite erratic… For you it didnt happen in X11 while for me it happened in X11 too… I do suspect this might be due to a NVIDIA driver issue , lets see till the next update
