No Desktop wall paper or icons

Please advise as I have no"desktop", meaning I have no wallpaper or icons down the left side of the screen.
I ran the hot disk and installed from there. The hot disk desktop was visible as were the icons down the left side. So I installed.
As there was no wallpaper or icons, I tried all the settings for desktop and screen etc but no joy.
All the applications in Cairo dock are fully functional.
So I installed teh gnome version and everything works. I reinstalled kwin and had the same issue. I installed llinux mint as I had work to do.
I retried this morning to install kwin and I have had the same issue. No desktop. Everything else is working (Still need to figure out the printer).
Please advise.

What edition is this?

So, you installed Kwin on GNOME for what reason? Kwin is the compositor of Plasma/KDE, it does not work with GNOME. GNOME has its own compositor called Mutter :eyes:
Btw, I edited your post to not look as messy as before, please use "~~~ text ~~~" next time for text output to have a better readable look  And welcome to the forum!

Thx for the reply.
When I say I reinstalled, I meant that I did a complete reinstall with formatting of harddrive before I installed Kwin. I didnt install kwin into gnome.

So with a clean install, when it boots up, there is nothing on my desktop except the Cairo dock. No background pictures, no icons down the left hand side - literally just a blank screen with the dock.

I hope that this is better explained. (I tend to assume things - sorry)

It is difficult for me to follow what you are saying.
So we are now on Garuda LXQT-Kwin?
And it doesn't look like the download section on the Garuda homepage or the live ISO you launched from the USB stick?

Why you change afterwards if this is what you like to see?

Correct. I installed Kwin. And it does not look anything ike the garuda homepage.
I tried a different edition to see how it works. The gnome edition looks exactly like th homepage.
I did another fresh install to install LXQT-Kwin. And again it does not look ike the Garuda homepage. I want the Kwin edition because I like the look of that one. But screen is blank. Only cairo dock is at the bottom of the screen.

Please also... I dont see cinnamon edition on download page.
Please advise. Thanks

Me too, there is also no Deepin  how can that be?
Not enough maintainers who can satisfy your wishes?
Who knows?

What is the full ISO name you downloaded?
From which host was it downloaded?
Have you checked sha256?

I just downloaded it from sourceforge. I did not checked the sha256.
garuda-lxqt-kwin-linux-zen-210621.iso is the name of the file I downloaded.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

Seems we have a broken link?

The liveboot edition I have, looks the same as online. When I installed it, thats when there was blank screen with the dock. OK, Ill wait for the updated link.

Cinnamon edition - must I just wait a few days?

My answer was:

If you like to maintain it we offer Cinnamon again.
If you need to ask how to do that then you don't need to ask.
