Garuda XFCE has a dodgy driver for realtek.
It wasn’t noticeable from a 24.04 iso release: but in the lastest iso, it’s there.
At first, I thought the Steam client was having its monthly networking issues: that’s not the case. Download rate bounces all over the place and never goes anywhere near the normal speed; and in other tests, it introduces a lot of random latency that stacks almost like buffer bloat with a multiplier.
In Linux Mint, there are no issues with network, bandwidth or latency. I have now moved back to that after waiting a few days with Steam returning to normal (it never changed).
I have dustbinned your post for lacking any type of useful information!!!
In the future always include a garuda-inxi output with any technical assistance request.
Linux Mint is an excellent distro for Linux beginners, I’m sure you’ll be happy there. Mint’s software and drivers are usually more stable than most rolling distros. The stability comes from running tried and tested, but far older kernels, drivers and software. If you don’t mind running outdated software a static distro is far easier for Linux newbs to manage and maintain. Advanced users generally enjoy the advantages of a far more current kernel and software offered by Arch Linux. It does however require good system maintenance skills to deal with the inevitable bugs that come with running bleeding edge kernels, drivers, and software.
Some users are more suited to a static distro. There’s no shame in wanting headache free stability. Having to “settle” is just art of life, you’ll get used to it.
