Linux & Tech news šŸ“°

This reminds me of Google's proposal for collecting aggregated user data and making ad "profiles" for users or whatever. As long as they keep getting data, they can keep selling ads even if the data is a little less specific.

Mozilla has become so swollen that revenue stream is becoming a bit of an issue. I think this move will damage their credibility with those of us paying close attention, but many users will forget about this within the course of a week (for better or worse).

I thought this person's Twitter contribution was priceless  :

The facebook involvement is unsettling, but I'd say it's nothing a fork cannot remedy.
By the way, it sounds quite similar to Brave's P3A advert protocol, only without a clear description (will it include randomization too?) and no BATs in return. Then again, some say bats spread corona.

Welp, finally a reason to switch to firedragon

First thing I know that it’s just an agreement for at least now and for someone who is not too much geek like you are , getting these news will only make their minds to say that we need a change (as facebook (meta) is synonymous to privacy threat ), and maybe they will get hates from those people who haven’t understood it properly .
They are doing like ubuntu ,
ubuntu is also not bad , it is still beginner’s place for new linux users, but the way of representation of some of their things (you know what do I mean) is not good enough so they have to face hates .

I am not forcing you to use brave (and will never be able to ) ,it’s my choice according to my needs , you can continue with firefox as there is still no change in source code and if there is then there can be an option of disabling it , like that of telemetry(you know it better  )

There can be an interesting discussion on whether bats spread corona or china did this :joy: there can also be many opinions like maybe this is a virus which was trapped in polar ice bergs and due to global warming it escaped away and now it had evolved to affect humans… and many more opinions . Just I would like to say that I am tired of wearing mask for 8 hours of 7 hours a day , I have to wear it even when I am riding my cycle  and that’s suffocating and the bad thing is that vaccines are now available for people under 18 and I am fully vaccinated but still have to wear mask ? :sob: :mask:

One of my failed attempts at humor I guess. :man_shrugging:
I just said it looks like a similar thing, some said Chrome too?

Well... now that the shock has passed... I am much better!

people, I have read the blog, and its great! They have been working for months without anyone knowing, for OUR SAKE! Its for our own good!

Plus, I have been reading on facebook/meta and mark zuckerberg and they totally respect our privacy: Facebook’s Commitment to Data Protection and Privacy in Compliance with the GDPR | Meta for Business and Read Mark Zuckerberg’s letter on Facebook’s privacy-focused future - The Verge

So ... nothing to worry about, all our privacy is respected, and seriously, read the mozilla blog, this is the best thing EVER!

I suggest everyone to leave brave or tor or whatnot deep darkweb dangerous services, and use facebook, google and mozilla! they totally respect our privacy ! they are the good guys! IT SAYS SO IN THEIR BLOGS!

I didn't even bother to read anything. Worst case scenario, we fork Falkon, we call it Eagle, boom end of story :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I may sound like a broken record on this, but whenever I see falkon -> qutebrowser !

Really ! Good development activity, dev is part time founded by donations to work on qutebrowser (and cool dude too, part of those donations go to little lib projects that he depends on), has trick a tone of customization, works properly on wayland and lib taskmanager on kde ( yeah... if you create profiles/various desktop files, those can be single icons/instances on latte dock), and is already working on qt6 port. Also has adblock (the one from brave) and greasemonkey and python scripting.

Also... damn fast ( the fastest ) on the html5 chalkboard test.

Only bad thing is that is dependent on qt's webengine, meaning old chrome engine :frowning: sniff

I really didn’t understand you, was that all sarcasm?

I too read the article and everything seems to be good in it, nothing bad.
I think there is no need to worry.

Treating a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek post with one of the same?

Best part is they asked NVIDIA to open source all drivers, or they will do it themselves (by leaking data online :joy: ).

Not really a "news" but rather a celebration...
I just stumbled across this one, a post exactly 20 years old announcing Mar 11 - Arch Linux 0.1 (Homer) released

Some important news was already posted above, but I thought a comprehensive summary (and a detailed list) could be interesting:
