Linux & Tech news 📰

Thanks once again, @RodneyCK . :slight_smile: I sure hope they've fixed the issue with the audio controller puck for my Logi Z407 audio system. It's not a very expensive system, but it has worked well, and still does, with Pulseaudio. (It works in Windows...LOLOLOLOL)

However, with Pulseaudio I can't really make use of JamesDSP, which I have grown to like very much. Just enough configurability that a non-audiophile like myself can use without too much confusion. :smiley:

EDIT: I note vs. 0.3.43 is in Arch Testing at this moment.

Yeah, it depends on your setup/sound card. For me, Pulseaudio always had a popping sound, but that doesn't happen with Pipewire. Coupled with Easyeffects equalizer, I am a happy camper so far. Pipewire was a struggle early on, lots of bugs, but now it is great, at least for my system. :wink:

@RodneyCK, I'm going to t ell you something in confidence; I'm a friggen' dummy. sigh

In the 20-some years running our favorite system (Linux);
In the 25 years since I became a government official;
In the nearly 35 years running that other thing (Windows);
In the 40 years since I ran a production plant's maintenance dept;
And in the 45-or so years since I became a licensed electrician...

...I have watched this error occur frequently.
I have been paid--sometimes highly--to resolve this problem.
It comes in many forms, but they all stem from the same source.

I forgot to switch the controller puck's power slide (underneath) to the 'On' position.

Let this serve as a written warning to anyone here that I try to 'help.'

I am beyond help.

Chit! Your 165 years old. :upside_down_face: I knew you were a few years old than me. :joy:

He's not 165 years old, it just seems that way. :grinning:

Possibly mistranslated.
He looks only so old :wink:
We sometimes say here to good friends, I hope you will be as old as you look. :rofl:

But all this is not meant seriously :slight_smile:
Peace :peace_symbol:

Fuzzy math! :heavy_multiplication_x: :heavy_minus_sign: :heavy_division_sign: = :older_man:t3:

That’s 165 years of experience my good friend.

On the serious side, I have worn many hats. All of the earlier experience led to a 30-year professional white-collar career that I can no longer physically perform. I’ll never regret any of it, though. There are lessons to be learned from any adverse situation (mainly don’t do that again). :wink:

But, probably more than anything else that drove me to first use Linux was a stubborn desire to not be told what to do, but rather to demand the decision making be mine wherever and whenever it could. I suspect that may be why the majority of us use Linux. I dare anyone to prove me wrong.
:wink:

I am Rodney’s fuzzy math solution.

Yeah… one of the reasons I turned to linux and ended up on gentoo, but I wouldn’t say its the majority.
Maybe in the beginning (1995~2005/2010), but not now.

Really? You may be right. We have had a huge influx of newcomers maybe even as late as 5 years ago, or so it seems. But how many of those, after a brief visit, return to something they don’t need to work towards to acquire? Meaning proficiency with an operating system that doesn’t fight you at every turn? A bundle, I’d bet. How many Linux newcomers have you seen come and go here, in these forums? We’re still small enough to notice, I notice. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Anyway, this discussion on my part has been totally Off Topic and I apologize to everyone whose bandwidth I have consumed. Thanks for the perspective, @ alexjp. :slight_smile:

Quite right you are. Most newbies are greatly enamored with Garuda, until they hit their first manual update intervention snafu. Then generally many, like rats leaving a sinking ship, scurry back to their usual Windows comfort zone. :rat:

Unfortunately, most don’t have the patience or perseverance these days to stick at it until they figure out the way Arch works.

that is why most use ubuntu or similar.

its not about being windows or linux... its about liking choices. and I think majority doesn't. at least, i don't see linux as a niche, as much as it was 10 years ago.

hence the move to "you won't even be able to install packages, and be happy" silverblue's alike.

Remember: "Silverblue is the future of the linux desktop" ( I mean, this is repeated so many times, it has to be true, right? )

hmm for my journey it was allways different ..my first linux try was i think in th 90 i buy suse linux . it was shit i not found the software i want ... i go back to win 95 :slight_smile: . And then allways when i search for linux they say try ubuntu or linux mint .. i try thoose many times and i allways go back to windows .. mostly bec of software or games ... or something broke .. i never want try arch bec say its for expert but one day i search again i see an articel about the new garadu that is so great for gaming and i think ok lets try it .. i installed linux mint and garuda same time ... and linux mint was broken after 1 month or less and i hated about to search for ppa bec u must know where it is u must find the software and if u come from windows u dont no the linux names of similar programs u use ..
but garuda still runs the only prob 2 problems i have get was corupt btrfs file system and Lutris mod edit messed up.
then i wipe hdd and installed only garuda beside win .. and till now i only use garuda :slight_smile:
and till now its runs great only again i fucked up lutris with i can´t fix .. but ok all othewrs run perfect .. most games i have are on steam and that runs great even triple a games runs great..
for me i think garuda more easy as linux mint or ubuntu bec i have less trouble on it and the best on it AUR u can find mostly everything there ..
the only one that is a bit confuse sometimes are pacnew files .. at first i ignore or overwrite it till i learn its not good now i try to right handle ..
i know i should install it new bec of lutris but it runs so fantastic that i not care :slight_smile: and sometimes i try to fix it but without sucess :slight_smile:
I think most go back to win or mint bec they want a fast solution if have problems and not read the mod edit fracking manual :rofl: .. u see it on questions even the template of post inixi will ignore ;).. or they afraid to post bec they noobs and u all experts .
but for myself even im a noob and sometimes maybee i break something but i love garuda and on garuda its the first time that i love linux really .
sorry for long OT i just awake :coffee: :rofl:

really waiting for this

I believed so, and it looked to be The Right Stuff. At first. Then their developers turned it into Just Another Container OS. But it has influenced the direction of several Linux distributions, for better or worse.
