About an hour ago, I did my system update via OctoPi app and Kernel 6.11.1 was in the update.
After a long grub-updating (took me about 20 minutes), finally finished, so i rebooted my Linux desktop.
First thing I notice is that Bluetooth no longer connects to anything, be it my headphones, game controllers, etc. On top of that, after about a minute, erases all the paired devices.
Also I found the whole system is highly unstable and grays out the windows, and the whole system freezes except my mouse cursor after about 5 minutes.
WTF is going on with this update ?
Fortunately, I restored my previous system from September 30th and all is good for now as long as I donāt do update my system.
Looks like no one has addressed and reported this huge issue as of yet.

Use always,
upd or update or garuda-update
in terminal, not octopi, please.
Check the terminal output and post which apps/drivers got a update.

That is good, but it is better not press Enter or Y Enter this moment. It brak again. Just wait or boot in the
kernel, maybe this one work. Also check the
Or restore the last working snapshot.

Currently running: 6.11.1-zen1-1-zen (linux-zen)
The following kernels are installed in your system:
local/linux-zen 6.11.1.zen1-1
local/linux-lts 6.6.52-1
6.11.1-zen1-1-zen works fine on my notebook.
Maybe you can install the LTS kernel and boot it from grub to check?

For me 6.11.1 wont bring up my wireless link, doesnt matter if zen or arch. 6.11.0 was running fine and so does 6.12-rc1.
I have no time to further look into it right now, but something is not right with 6.11.1

Hi guys, so as title says after the update to this kernel, my system gets stuck at loading initial ram disk. Current workaround is to boot through fallbackā¦
I tried using dracut --force and what i noticed is, it seems the system didnāt automatically create the folders for the kernel, i needed to do that for the previously installed kernel and now this one to be able to use it ( donāt know if is something related)
Anyways even after using it, iām still stuck with the same error, iām inclined to fallback to the previously kernel at this rate
āit seems the system didnāt automatically create the folders for the kernelā¦ā
That could be the cause of this issue, Iām guessingā¦
I forgot to unmount several external hard drives when I updated to 6.11.1 kernel.
Also, normally updating initramfs takes only about one minute max, but that time it took me about 20 minutes.
I havenāt tried updating without those hard drives mounted.
Iām still waiting for kernel 6.11.2 whenever it comes up⦠Sighā¦
Isao
Hi there,
just wanted to mention that I, too, have problems after updating to kernel 6.11.1.
My system hangs just before loading the initramfs. Iāve returned to a snapshot with kernel 6.10.10 and updated without the linux kernel update, so everything works fine for now.
I will probably also wait for the next kernel update.

The solution for all these kernel related issues is to either use the LTS version or downgrade to whatever last version worked the best for you and add the linux
+ linux-headers
packages to IgnorePkg
. No need to wait for new release, sigh . Choose what works for you, as a end user you need not worry about testing, you are an end user, not a tester.
NOTE FOR NEW USERS:
Check my reply here if you do not want to break your system ! :
Well my bad for saying packages do not require Linux kernel as a dependency explicitly, as for partial upgrades , I would say they are not advisable but can be utilised for stability and usability if a recent kernel version causes issues.
And just to add to it which I should have said way earlier, holding the kernel package like this is only safe (mostly) for a few months (6-8 months max) at best. After which one should give a new kernel version a try. Doing this for years or longer can and WILā¦
So how do I add the ālinuxā + ālinux-headersā packages to āIgnorePkgā ? Iām still a noob when it comes to kernel stuff.

Learn to search, please
Its all explained in the web
sudo micro /etc/pacman.conf
remove the #

First thing I notice is that Bluetooth no longer connects to anything, be it my headphones, game controllers, etc. On top of that, after about a minute, erases all the paired devices.
It is fairly common for Bluetooth to break on some kernel updates. Another user with a Mediatek BT adaper reported a BT breakage 3 days ago.
Hey guys I just picked up an Neptune HX99G from Minisforum for one of my employees at work and it refuses to recognize the onboard bluetooth. Itās a complete AMD system and uses the RZ608 for wireless. Everything I can find online references the 5.13-ish kernel being an issue which is obviously ages old at this point. Not sure where to go from here. I ordered a simple tp-link bluetooth adapter thatās verified working from Amazon so itās not super vital but Iām annoyed I canāt seem to get it to wā¦
I asked him to post the bluetooth errors from his logs, but he has not responded. The most common fix when Bluetooth breaks on a kernel update has already been mentioned:
The first thing to always try is to test the LTS kernel if a kernel updare breaks your Bluetooth. It is also a good idea to test the linux-mainline
kernel and headers. The mainline kernel always contains the most recent driver updates to correct any breakages to drivers that are included in the kernel. Mediatek WiFi and Bluetooth drivers are included in the Linux kernel, which is good because you donāt have to install proprietary drivers to get their adapters to work. Unfortunately, this also can result in breakages when changes occur with the kernel.
IMO it is far better (and safer) to use an alternate working kernel than to freeze the zen kernel and headers at an outdated version. Doing this results in a partial update, which is never recommended when using Arch Linux.
Well a frozen kernel package has never caused issues for me in my experience, using a recent working version of any kernel is good as long as it works fine , if it stops working fine at any specific version then it is advisable to freeze it as a last resort if none other kernels work.
IMO it shouldnāt break things until you have bleeding edge hardware or some other update crucially depends on it. Kernel updates arenāt always needed , if it works it works .
This kind of a partial upgrade should rarely cause issues.
