Konsole transparency - for root konsole also

Hi All, I am really struggling here to remove the transparency from konsole. I have a slight eyesight impairment and the current settings are impossible to use when there is a white background.

I do not care which theme I just cannot see clearly with the background shining through the terminal.

Pleas could someone help me.

Would you find it fine if transparency would be disabled from any app, not just Konsole? That's very easy to do.

1 Like

Hi thanks for the quick response. Yes I am happy to make all 100% opaque.

1 Like

Easy-peasy. Go into Konsole's own settings, create a new profile without transparency, save, then select it as the Default profile. This is still KDE. You can change anything.

Thanks but I am not familiar with kde. How exactly can I do that ?

Settings -> Edit Current Profile -> Appearence -> Edit (the current color scheme) -> Background transparency
Or create a new profile, of course

Sorry for appearing dim but I cannot find Settings->Edit Current Profile->Appearance.

I have Global Theme - System Settings and I have Settings Garuda System Settings but no Edit Current Profile.

You'll see it on the top panel when Konsole is open

Thank you. It feels just like when you have been looking for something for ages and when your frustration is near maximum your partner comes and finds it straight away.

Hi Again. The previous solution does not work on root konsole.

Could someone please tell me how to get root konsole settings ?

1 Like

Sorry for the naive question: what do you mean exactly with "root konsole"?

1 Like

No problem it is I that should be sorry.

I launched a konsole as root from Dolphin and the settings did not show at the top of the screen.

I have another problem now though because I right clicked the window title and through More Actions added application properties for inactive window and active window and set both opacity to 0% and now I cannot see the konsole at all.

I really do apologize for my ignorance here.

Can I just wipe my customisations for this app ?

Many applications can be reset with the Garuda Assistant, but I think konsole is not one of them. Now I'm on the mobile and cannot check.
My only idea would be to try reinstalling the garuda-dr460nized package, which includes konsole garuda.profile but also other settings.

1 Like

Thank you. Would that be
sudo pacman -S garuda-dr460nized ?

I do not have anything to loose in this installation as my current aim is just to get the keyboard backlight to work under garuda for this entry level ideapad laptop !

Yes. Before that, you may want to simply check this file.

Probably, you still have the master here
/usr/share/konsole/Sweetified.colorscheme
And your local config to something like
~/.local/share/konsole/Sweetified.colorscheme
If you don't find the latter or the former is identical to the linked file, try reinstalling...

1 Like

could I just delete ~/.local/share/konsole/Sweetified.colorscheme ?
or overwrite it with master if it exists ?

1 Like

Yes, of course, copy master over local, if you find It.

Overwrote but no effect. Found
[General]
Blur=true
ColorRandomization=false
Description=Sweetified
Opacity=0.55

Should I set Opacity to 1.0 as in CSS ?

Tried 1.00 and launched a new konsole but no luck.
Tried 100.00 and still the same. Obviously nothing to do with window background opacity so restoring to 0.55. This begs the question why anyone would want a semi-transparent terminal in the first place.

I did sudo pacman -S garuda-dr460nized but surprisingly no change. Good job I had installed lxterminal.

Is there a global setting to change out fish for lxterminal ?
and then fully remove fish and then reinstall fish (not that I understand how fish works anyway) ?
