KDE Plasma desktop not showing up after login from SDDM

KDE Plasma desktop not showing up after login from SDDM, after a new update.
It stays forever on a blank, grey loading screen.
It has been a few days now, and I was expecting an update would solve the issue.
But it never did, and I have been stuck on the last stable snapshot ever since.

Please have a look at these errors and diagnostics from the new updated snapshot:

> sudo garuda-inxi

Have you tried logging into an X11 session rather than Wayland?

Yup, Plasma X11 session is working.

I found a similar issue here, possibly due to an Nvidia card, but I don’t have an Nvidia card. I have an integrated AMD one.
Their issue seemed to have been automatically solved with an update…

Also, booting with the LTS kernel didn’t work.
I tried skipping the vulkan-radeon package update, which didn’t work.

Dude you made me look at the forbidden green ick.

After a quick glance (so as to not damage my eyes), it appeared that user was also using their integrated AMD card.

Unless you have a pressing need for a specific Wayland feature, why not simply use X11 temporarily. I use programs that don’t work with Wayland, so I’m sticking to using an X session for a while longer.

Hmm, maybe they just concluded it wrong, blaming their Nvidia driver update…

The experience is way inferior to X11, both aesthetically and functionally.
I would rather stay on the working stable snapshot…

I was thinking of preventing the culprit package from updating. Any idea which package might be causing it?

Thank you for your time.

I’m not sure what the culprit is, but both your cachyos kernels were updated. Perhaps you need to test alternate kernels such as linux , linux-lts , linux-zen , or linux-mainline.

I tested linux-lts along with linux-lts-headers, but still no luck. It’s the same.

Update:
If I log in to X11 session, log out and then log in to Wayland session, it works!
Otherwise it doesn’t…

There was a similar issue opened in our forum some time back:

But UltraBlack had to reinstall his system to fix it…

This too didn’t work for me…

A few days ago, I discovered that the ‘guest user’ was logging in to the Wayland session without any issues!
I then narrowed down the issue to some config file in the ~/.config folder, but couldn’t figure out which config file was the culprit…

I backed up the config files and folders important to me, and then deleted the ~/.config folder, which got reset with the default config files after a reboot and solved the issue.

Thanks for updating everyone on your solution @Austin. Too bad you never narrowed down the config file that was causing your issue. Good stuff all the same. :+1:

This happened to me yesterday…in my case the culprit was kwalletmanager screwing things up. I downloaded kwalletmanager (it wasn’t present on my system, but for some reason the kwallet pop-up was happening when i opened vivaldi), went to system settings and unchecked the Enable Wallet option and sddm worked like magic after a reboot. (it also fixed my vivaldi install)
