ISO Release: 251103

A new Garuda Linux ISO release “251103” has been issued.

Disclaimer

ISO releases like this one are refreshed versions of an existing “major” release, containing the latest versions of all packages, bug fixes and hardware compatibility improvements. It is not necessary to reinstall Garuda Linux to take advantage of any changes made in an updated ISO file. A normal garuda-update system update will suffice.

Disclaimer for Linux news outlets and press

Garuda Linux ISO releases are not “major” releases of Garuda Linux and generally not noteworthy events. Although not on a schedule, it is not abnormal for there to be multiple ISO releases in a month. For most Linux news outlets, reporting on an ISO release is not recommended for that reason. The editorial freedom lies with the publication, however (of course!).

Garuda Linux is a rolling release distribution, meaning any changes made to it will be immediately available to the general public without the need to wait for a major release. The same also applies for these rebuilt ISO files. In a sense, rebuilt ISOs, while technically part of the same release, contain the latest and greatest software available in the repositories at the time of creation.

Noteworthy changes

 • A more robust hotfix system was added to garuda-update, replacing garuda-hotfixes.
 • Replaced old calamares installer slides with updated slides.
 • Fixed an issue where garuda-hardware-tool would not detect GPUs with hexadecimal PCI IDs containing a to f.
 • Added support for “inplace” system resets, effectively allowing reinstallation of Garuda Linux from a running system without any additional install media, while keeping home folder files intact.
 • Slightly reduced time needed for the Garuda Linux installation process.
 • Trimmed back on certain older GTK packages that were dropped from chaotic-aur.
 • Removed automated keyring/hotfix updates from garuda-system-maintenance. This also prevents the keyring update fail message directly after first boot. Replaced with garuda-update.

Note: Changes not directly relevant to the ISO files (general changes) are not mentioned.
(The garuda-update change is present because the garuda-update self-update system is relevant to newly installed system from the ISO images)

Got XFCE running, but ran into some trouble getting it installed.

Gave the following error:

Installation Failed
External command failed to start.
Details:
Command systemmd-machine-id-setup --root=/tmp/calamares-
root-_zus2cmk failed to start.

…and then it crashed back into the pre-live initialization sequence.

I noticed if I don’t use the default Machine Name generated by the install wizard it continues normally.

Can you re-state your exact steps to causing this to happen?

Started installer from RANI with internet connection, auto-detected region and keyboard input to South Africa. Erased a new partition on main drive with no swap and no encryption. Entered my full name, left username on default and machine name on default, entered password normally. Installer gave this error just before 40%. When I close the error, it leaves the live session and displays the initial boot sequence with the green OKs.

Heya, can you DM me your full name so I can reproduce this error?

With the current issue with yay, pacseek, pikaur, paru, etc… and the change over of the nVidia driver is it safe to reinstall my roommates system? He’s managed to break a couple of things that I can’t get fixed. Thanks

Of course.

Had to ask cause I got all the programs fixed on my system, and all looks good. Gary’s for some reason no matter what I do Pacseek will not rebuild to except the updated dependency. That on top of him breaking his application menu means time to rerun.

You can reinstall the system in place and keep the home folder by running garuda-update remote os-reset.

Sounds like a workaround to inmutable, NICE.

You don’t happen to have a copy of the 251002 ISO do you? I went to do Gary’s install and as soon as I moused over the networking button the live got extremely sluggish and I remembered on his last install I had to use the 251002 instead of the 251103. Do not know what the issue with his hardware and the 251103 ISO, but there is def no love between them. Thanks

Check sourceforge.

Yea I tried that by taking this ISO’s name and replacing 251103 for 251002, but all that got me what got me was the 2509?? ISO. I’ll take another look just in case I missed the one.

EDIT:

OK got it. Thanks
