Hello, Im trying to install Garuda Linux KDE Dr460nized.
During the installation on the command
grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot/efi --bootloader-id=Garuda --force
it gave me the error code 1.
Note: I know that this is related to the UEFI settings of the BIOS, however I have no idea if I have UEFI boot enabled on my BIOS, since the only option under UEFI is something like “Network Stacking”.
The usb drive the iso is flashed to is set to “EFI Enabled”.
(Insyde H2O BIOS)
Sorry for potentially wasting your time, I’m just really frustrated with this right now and would appreciate any kind of help.

Regarding the Boot Repair, I get the error
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: error: cannot open `/usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/fs.lst': No such file or directory.
I get this or a similar error for all 3 options to reinstall grub
(MBR, root, ESP)
I will now try to chroot to fix things, following the instructions of the post you linked.
no idea
I think you most likely have UEFI on so check if you have ESP partitions before trying to install to MBR

I do have an ESP partition (at least if i’m reading this correctly)
Trying to reinstall on ESP in the Boot Repair gives me this error
Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
grub-install: error: cannot open `/usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/fs.lst': No such file or directory.
Edit: trying to chroot into it and install grub results in the same error

I see this is persisting but I’m not sure what it means.
The file is owned by package grub
, I don’t think it can be missing from the live disk?
What ISO by the way, not some pre-release?
edit: I see there are two EFI partitions, which is the correct one? the nvme I think?

I’m currently on Live ISO
The ISO was downloaded from the official garudalinux website, from the downloads page. I assume it’s not any pre-release. (I can’t find any garuda version in system info)
I did
mount | grep /boot/efi
to see if the /boot/efi directory exists, but apparently it doesn’t exist:
/dev/nvme0n1p1 on /tmp/calamares-root-vj6jgdas/boot/efi type vfat (rw,noatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,
codepage=437,iocharset=ascii,shortname=mixed,utf8,errors=remount-ro)
/dev/nvme0n1p1 on /mnt/broken/@/boot/efi type vfat (rw,relatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,i
ocharset=ascii,shortname=mixed,utf8,errors=remount-ro)
/dev/nvme0n1p1 on /mnt/broken/@/boot/efi type vfat (rw,relatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,i
ocharset=ascii,shortname=mixed,utf8,errors=remount-ro)
/boot/broken is from when I tried to chroot, the other seems to be a temp directory
I can’t see any actual /boot/efi directory here, except I’m missing something

Two EFI Partitions?
I only see /dev/nvme0n1p1 - the EFI partition
and /dev/nvme0np2 - the garuda install
maybe I misunderstand
/dev/sda2 5122468 5130659 8192 4M ef EFI (FAT-12/16/32)
/mnt/broken/@/boot/efi
is the /boot/efi
of the main system

but /mnt/broken is the direction I created to chroot in
as seen in this guide
yes, and its @
volume is mounted there, so anything below /mnt/broken/@/
is actually the main system while in chroot. That is the whole point of chroot.
this /usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/fs.lst
has me scratching my head, is it there in the main system and the live ISO?

Ah ok.
(btw could you tell me how I check if it’s on the main system? I think this just checks on the ISO)
But yes, fs.lst does exist:

Alright I’ll come back to this tomorrow

How did you write the ISO to USB? What procedure/application? Did you verify it? These are important factors.

After thinking about it earlier today, I decided to go for another distro since I just didn’t feel qualified for this. I will come back to Garuda some time though.
As an after thought, I was probably facing at least some of the problems I had because I didn’t verify the integrity of the ISO.
Sorry for wasting everyones time here.

Please return any time. There can be several factors involved with any Linux distribution, especially with newer hardware. But I’ve seen only a very few cases where it was not possible and that was usually long ago. What we have to do is start with the basics, and here that starts with the ISO.
Plus we have some of the most experienced “troubleshooters” in the Linux realm. They will help you help yourself, I promise. That’s what we do here.
