Hi, I installed a couple of days ago garuda linux in my computer. With the ISO installation everything was smooth but I’ve preferred to do a full update at least once, as I’ve figured the ISO was outdated enough. Nonetheless after the update I started having trouble with my Wi-Fi and the Sleeping mode, Wi-Fi is just finicky connecting and disconnecting and usually not using all the bandwidth, the real problem is the sleeping mode, whenever I get my computer to sleep by closing the lid or using the sleep button, and then try it to woke up, it seems the computer is partly functional the light in the turn on button lights up, but the screen keeps turn off, I tried using hybrid sleep, and the screen does turn on but it hangs and keeps black. The thing that I did that did the most was to change the kernel to the lts version of linux, but the Wi-Fi in that one stopped working at all, I tried re-enabling the service with a post in here, but it kept not able to detect any Network. Any kind of help would be appreciated, have in mind I am new to Linux but I know how to manage myself.

Edit: Am using zen kernel, I was using it since I first installed the os

key part of the issue got resolve after full OS reinstall. Now the laptop comes back to life but the Network manager completely dies after it wakes up, Wi-Fi supposedly is enabled but it cannot find any network after full on restart.

Yeah I saw this answer from a co-maintainer:

So toying around this is an error that comes out with “systemctl status NetworkManager”

And searching around about it I discovered it is a service that can be consult with the following command: “systemctl status wpa_supplicant.service”:

Install the LTS kernel & headers, reboot and see what happens.

I already did from the setup assistant, nonetheless the internet service just dies, tho as I said in the original post it comebacks to life immediately, thank you anyways :smiley:

Hey thank you for leading me to that post, I found it a time ago and lost it, the new driver works marvels in LTS kernel, nonetheless it keeps having the power issue, I saw there’s a workaround with some kind of script, but I do not understand how to applied it, it would be a lot of help if someone could explain me. Sorry for late answer, week got busy

and paste.

mmm I meant the script in the github of the driver itself, I already installed the driver via those commands as I said, it works very well, now I can connect myself with the lts kernel which wasn’t possible before, but it keeps dying after I put the laptop to sleep.

That script should be provided by the package. If you navigate to the directory that package was built from you should be able to just copy it to /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/ with that command.

You could set it up manually if that is easier; the script is right here: https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw89/blob/main/suspend_rtw89

Create the file:

sudo micro /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/suspend_rtw89

Paste the script in:

#!/bin/sh
if [ "${1}" == "pre" ]; then
  modprobe -rv rtw_8852ae
elif [ "${1}" == "post" ]; then
  modprobe -v rtw_8852ae
fi

Save and exit out of micro, then make the script executable:

sudo chmod +x /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/suspend_rtw89
