cannot install. wireless is disabled so there are errors during the boot process regarding pacman-keyring and mirror rankings. I manually enabled wireless and connected to my WLAN. calamares reports it cannot install saying something users@users is missing.
I only have WiFi on my laptop.
Thy USB tethering.
Doesn't fix the problem, only treats the symptom. Calamares is still failing to install.
What exactly? If you restart calamares it will pick the network connection - (which is bad and still a problem though)
To got log.
Time to read.
So how to actually write a good bug report?
Why you do not use ^^?
As already mentioned earlier you can use Android USB phone tethering to get a temporary internet connection so that you can post your error messages and logs as text.
If you keep insisting on posting pictures on a technical help threads you will inevitably end up with your thread being locked. Textual outputs must be posted on technical threads so that the outputs may be searched and found by helpers and users alike.
It is unimportant to our forum assistants if it makes things slightly more complicated than taking a phone pic for you. Pictures and videos are forbidden to be posted on tech threads unless there is zero other way (highly unlikely). If you are incapable of posting textual outputs in accordance with our forum guidelines then perhaps you need to seek an alternate
channel for support such as reddit.
Textual outputs are the only method accepted on technical help threads, this is not Facebook or YouTube. Post in the approved manner or your thread will be locked. Forum assistants are tired of having users repeatedly ignore requests for text outputs. In the future those who do not wish to comply will simply have their threads locked.
In the worst case, YOU have to capture the terminal and use any Reverse image lookup websites or some alternative and convert image to text and post here.
Will cost you 5 minutes extra, at most , but will save hours of confusion.
OK, I am communicating from the laptop. I have wireless internet. I ran the sudo -E /usr/bin/calamares and it crapped out as before. Where are the mythical logs I am supposed to upload?
I could not find any calamares logs. This is the terminal output:

Look, I am trying to help here and you have a giant, showstopper bug in this version: the inability to install on a wireless only machine. The current configuration ships with wireless disabled plus it assumes a working network connection during boot:

It is also a bit unprofessional to threaten those who are trying to help with being banned and having the thread locked when it isn't even my topic.
Just to make sure, I purchased a USB-Ethernet adapter and tried again. The pacman-init service failed anyway but the mirror ranking worked. Calamares bombed again saying the it could not load the module user@users.
Firstly if your wireless isn’t working out of the box that is generally because you haven’t purchased Linux compatible hardware with in kernel driver support.
This is not a professional distribution so to accuse us of being unprofessional is rather pointless. If you want to have professional support try Red Hat Enterprise Linux, I believe their proffesional support packages start at about $20’000 per year.
As far as this not being your own thread, then you are hijacking and you should open your own help request for your issue. Be sure to post a full inxi -Fxxxza output on your new help request.
I don’t know where you ever got the idea anyone suggested you were going to be banned from the forum. Having a thread locked and having a ban imposed are radically different things.
Please open your own help request. This thread is not the place for complex support issues.
Thank you.
You misunderstand, @tbg. My wireless works just fine. It is not a driver issue. I have run more distros through this laptop than I can remember without a hardware hiccup. The Sway distro comes up with wireless networking disabled for some reason. In the previous release, calamares whined about it, but all it took was activating the wireless networking, connecting to a WLAN, restarting calamares and Bob’s your uncle.
In this release, calamares is reporting that module user@users cannot be found (or something to that effect) and the only choice I have is to cancel the installation. I tried with wireless network enabled as I did before and I went out and purchased a USB-Ethernet adapter that was Linux compatible and tried it that way. I got the same error.
No installation.log was generated and the only thing I could provide were the errors from launching it via a terminal. TBH, I was unaware of the rule against screenshots and photos because like 99.99% of the other users here, the only part of the EULA i read was “I accept”.
Back is 2008, I ran planetamd64.com, a forum dedicated to 64-bit computing before it was the norm. I had 20,000+ users. I had my share of rabble-rousers. Heck, I had one guy try to stage a coup and get me ousted as site owner. Unfortunately for him, the site was running physically from my house. We usually user a “three strikes” policy before threatening the ban hammer, unless the violation was of the insta-ban category (porn, piracy, cyber-bullying or proselytizing). I had another guy trying to sell Russian brides, for heaven’s sake.
This is the thread about the Sway distro. The person trying to produce this distro asked for help in testing. I am generously providing that. There is an issue with it that I have not encountered in any other Garuda spin I have tried. Nor did it happen in the previous release. It is a showstopper bug. The system will not install.
I am not asking for special treatment or “professional support”, just some respect for the efforts I am contributing to try and make this another stellar addition to the Garuda Linux ecosystem.
No. I do get it, and again no one was threatening to ban anyone here.
I realize you're trying to help, but what I'm trying to say is that a general thread for sway now over 300 posts long is absolutely the wrong place for in depth troubleshooting on your install issue.
This should be dealt with on your own thread so that it can be found easily by other users searching for a solution to a similar issue. Being buried on a 300+ long post thread is not conducive to being easily located. This thread is simply not the right place for help requests requiring in depth lengthy troubleshooting.
Fair enough.
Have you created a section for the Sway spin like all of the other spins?
Many thanks!
@SGS where is qtile section?
