Garuda kde dr4gonised graphical glitches leading to crashed programs in some cases

I’ve got a headache of a problem that’s been going on a while.

Symptoms:

  1. The panel icons Display all on top of each other on the left side of the panel when I hover the mouse cursor over them, although the clickable shortcuts are still in the correct position.

  2. The window bars are still there, but are invisible.

  3. The icons on the top bar all appear over the menu button on the top bar although the clickable part is still in the correct place mouse cursor over them, and desktop blur is no longer showing any form of wallpaper nor is it blurring.

  4. Hovering in the top left corner causes a black quarter circle to appear, when it used to show desktops.

  5. alt+tab causes a black screen followed by a browser crash on both firedragon and firefox, it also happens on games.

I have a screenshot, but cannot upload the image as I am a new user on the forum.

I’ve tried searching full length and shortened descriptions of my issue on the links advised, but I cannot seem to find anything related to my issue. Maybe I am using incorrect phrasing to describe the problem somehow?

It is likely you are experiencing issues using Wayland because you are using Nvidia drivers. Try starting an X11 session instead. You can change the session type on the login screen.

sorry, I should have said, I tried an x11 session and it made no difference.

Have you tried creating a new user?

Sounds like a Plasma issue.

Since when have you had the problem, from the beginning?

Have you changed anything on the desktop, for example added widgets or changed the theme, etc.?

A screenshot would be helpful, you can also upload it to a pic hoster and share the link here.

Try upgrading your Plasma version 6.0.5 to plasma 6.1.0 (garuda-update) and check whether the issues are still there.

Edit: Are you starting with a saved session or with an empty session?

Something is broken with Plasma or KDE or NVIDIA from the last update, surprised not to see more posts.

You are not alone, Plasma/KDE broken here too.

I can’t confirm that, all my systems run KDE Plasma and work without issues. And the wild_wild_web is pretty quiet about this.

The original poster has had the issues for a while. Until he responds with more information, all we can do is call Delphi and ask the oracle ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Was after an update earlier this month. I’ve done multiple updates since, hoping it would be patched.

Initially I changed nothing. After the problem occurred, I tried reapplying the default theme, changing the theme back and forth. As an update: I’ve got wallpaper back.

when I first posted, I couldn’t post images, as for now, it looks promising:

I didn’t change anything from default, but having read your reply, I looked at session settings, and changed them to start an empty session. the results are still the same.

I will try this and come back to you with the results

having run update again, and rebooted. the issue still persists

further testing: I can now hover on the top corner and have the desktop switcher back. However alt+tab still causes a black screen from my web browser and icon images still seem to want to move to the top left of where they are displayed when hovered over on the panel or the top bar.

forgotten I’d turned off active blur as I just get a black desktop with it on^^;

additional additional update: my window decorations are back!
even more update, there is an icon on the topbar that when hovered over still flies off to the top left corner, but says “software renderer is in use rendering performance may be degraded”

As long as no one has responded to your post, you can edit your post

Seems to be getting better bit by bit

Try the suggestion from @filo:

Edit: I didn’t see your edit.

Click on the dialog and options should appear.

ok, I created a new user, logged out, logged back in to the new user. everything seems to be fine there. This made me wonder, what on earth did I do to break my user…
so I logged out of the new user I had created, logged into my original user, this gave me a black screen for a bit, so I hit ctrl+alt+delete. the result seems to be everything is looking sane again in my original user. all I’ve got left to test is running a game and alt+tabbing.

I’m really glad this seems to have worked, but I’d love to understand -why- it worked.

Also, sorry for the multi-post thing^^;

Nothing, as far as I know it’s a problem with QT. Keep testing and if it happens again, click on the QT-Quick dialog and set the options offered to “Automatic” → reboot.

I think we can mark this as solved. Thankyou everyone who helped!

just to clarify, before I created the new user, I did click on the icon and set the renderer to automatic, just assumed it didn’t work and carried on following my course of action. (in case anyone else uses this post as a reference for the same problem:

this was the solution.
