If you include terminal outputs in your post please use the proper output format in your post. Using "~" 3 times above and "~" 3 times below the text block will provide a readable, raw look.

Ok. Please be aware that garuda install has no networking or internet at present. Had to run command and save to a usb stick to transfer and post from arco install.

No problem but there are only ~~~ in first and last line.
That must work on arco too

Maybe you could try using a live USB.
You could see if timeshift works from there.
Alternatively. you could try to chroot from the live USB and try to execute the restore from terminal after chrooting.

Will try that. Back soon.

Tried both methods. no joy. Keeps asking me to restore snapshot but timeshift still not responding.

Just a stupid idea... The sudo not working sounds crucial to me here...
Did you happen to use chown lately, and maybe unwillingly changing ownership of files or folders owned by root?

no. First install worked for about 6+ months. Reinstall worked until first update. beginning to think it may be authentication problems as I could not open my arco install in thunar which always worked before.
Me now very confused, out of my limited depth, but loving it.
Many thanks to all.

Timeshift not opening, sudo not working, etc. seems you are not logged into admin account. Are you sure you didn't log into guest account or any other?

Can you log into root?

No. Have autologin enabled and unable to change, same reason authentication failure. User always states terry (me).
Have just been informed that I have reached new user limit. Will post any other answers tomorrow.
Many thanks to all.

How about on a console? i.e. clt-alt-F3

Try post again.

Live ISO, garuda-chroot, "upd" in terminal, sounds like broken update.

Or if you have sudo and timeshift problems, since you're already root in chroot, you could try directly

reflector --country Germany --latest 5 --age 2 --fastest 5 --protocol https --sort rate --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist && cat /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist && SKIP_AUTOSNAP=1 pacman -Syu

I am lazy, upd is the same

@SGS Tried. Response command not found
@filo Updated but still no sudo, timeshift, network after reboot.
@Catra Tried to sudo and su but no joy. sudo is owned by pid 1000 not 0. Su unable to load groups (I think).
Have to keep skipping back and forward between garuda live, garuda installed and arco.
Many thanks for all you help. Sorry about late reply.

It is inside .bashrc, .zshrc, fish.config since many, many months, on i3wm since start.
But you can catch up on it yourself if you like.

Did you use ext4 or Btrfs?

Give a look at this one.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=261557
Try to chroot again and chown root: root for
/etc/sudo.conf and /usr/bin/sudo
Maybe it helps...
