Fresh boot of Garuda failing after system journal error

Over the past week I have been trying to figure out how to use Linux and possibly make the switch from Windows to Garuda by the end of the year.

After many hours of research I have yet to figure out how to fix my problem. In my research I have only found similar issues but only for those that have already booted their specific distro successfully more than once. currently I have faced the same error over and over on multiple different distros (ubuntu, mint, dragonized, and xfce) and I always end up with the same error:

  1. tries to run journal service
(“A start job is running for journal Service (1s/1min 22s)”)

  2. fails to run journal service
[FAILED] Failed to start JOURNAL SERVICE.
See ‘systemctl status systemd-jounald.service’ for details

(would upload images but can’t)
does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this using either the grub 2 menu or window(cant use VM). If necessary open to bypassing it all together, whatever it takes to boot the thing
I have tried using both balena etcher and ventoy to boot with either and ssd or usb flash drive.

specs:
CPU: E5 2697v3
GPU: RX 5700 XT
RAM16gb ddr4 NON ECC (desktop)
STORAGE(for linux): crucial bx240gb sata ssd (CT240BX200SSD)
MOBO: QIYIDA E5 A99 (aliexpress board)(marketed as gaming mobo)

if anyone could even try and diagnose the possible problems with my system journal that would be of great help for my troubleshooting.

Use normal boot (grub) not grub2.

Use external links to your image in your post, like github, gitlab, …

Hello

it can be a Problem with Ventoy and Etcher with some linux isos.i had same issue please try other iso image writer.

Which system youre currently using for creating the usb drive?

Which ISO from Garuda you are trying to boot or install?

if the stick shows ready please use safe remove(Eject) options. My iso writer says done but is blinking for 3 minutes afterwards until all data is correct written and can do pull it out.

To avoid misunderstandings, you can’t boot a live.iso or does the first boot after an install go wrong?
If you can boot the live.iso, please post your garuda-inxi.

If not: You have an old Haswell Xeon, is it a ws-mobo? Please post the manufacturer and model of the mobo (or of the computer if it is not a home-made one).
What kind of RAM is it, ECC-RAM?

Check your BIOS settings: Secure Boot off, Fastboot off, AHCI on, and if possible UEFI-only mode.

Try booting the live.iso when all SSDs/HDDs are disconected from the mobo.

For garuda I have really only tried to use the cloud fare one or whatever the first option was.

I have only tried balena for usb so far

Also what other iso writer would you suggest?

that helps nothing . Cloud fare ? cluodflare is a ddos Security Company .

if youre on windows search for Rufus or this here i preffer more because you can verify it too.

which one you downloaded from here?
Garuda Linux | Download

please answer the questions.

I will try rufus but I cant until later
As for the download on the garuda website I clicked on download then onto the first option which is labeled “direct (cloudflare r2)”

ah ok you mean dr460nized KDE Edition . Yes r2 is cdn file=)

also try other usb port can help if you on a hub.

I believe all the bios settings are properly enabled/disabled
As for garuda-inxi i dont know what that is
As for hardware my ram is standard desktop non ecc ram and my mobo is called the qiyida e5 a99 and it is marketed as a gaming mobo.

I will try but it still wouldnt explain the boot attempts from an internal secondary ssd

Also what iso source from garuda should I try instead: torrent, sha256 or from the packages download.
Do you think there is anything I could maybe change, delete, or add to the packages in order to bypass the system journal check

try first to get the iso runing that you have the welcome screen where you can start the installation then we can help you more out …

you want to know to install on a secondary harddrive and how too boot?

Oh shoot I must have forgotten to clarify that I had got into the garuda menu that allows you to change timezones, language, keyboard layout etc. So the very first menu you come across.

That is similar to the menu I boot into

a gaming mobo? from 2005 XP times thats a rip off if you have this one linked below . this board can be to old and looking for a version with LTS kernel. let me check something.

P.S
wrong infos on this site.

It is a ddr4 mobo it is one of the more recent x99 mobos bios is from 2015

thats a liitle old the bios maybe you can update it.

you should get this picture right?

you descriped a RX 5700 XT GPU.

Did you choose Boot with Open source driver and not (nvidia boot)?

The photo you provided is the one I that does show up for me but I just grabed the first one off the interenet. I have been using the open source driver option but I have tried both just in case

i dowloaded the same iso file for testing.

dr460nized-zen-240428 version with R2 Cludflare. No issue with that iso.(only your downloaded file is damaged you can check your file with the checksums for damaged file.)

choose same boot option and started to this here.

I think you might be right but I have had the same system journal problem on both xfce and ubuntu
It says my drive is healthy is it possible it has something to do with any other hardware

how many harddrives you have and how they are connected inside ? NVME m2 and your Sata SDD?

ps. also unplug all not necessary usb devices only Mouse and Keyboard. or test without connected harddrives like @nepti suggested to see a CPU issue.

and rams if you have more as one =)
