Note: I added uBlock and the awful Google Translate myself.

Speaking of Japan, that’s where I’m at right now. Nice coincidence haha

Checked out mercury an floorp. I can’t really tell with mercury being faster with how I browse, but I’m liking floop its customization is really nice for a ultrawide monitor. Bottom address bar vertical auto hidden tabs rounded corners on web pages is a breath for fresh air.

-setup though im still testing if i like side tabs .

I exclusively use Tor Browser Bundle. :moyai:

I’ve got a new favourite browser

When dr460nf1r3 suggested floorp I got curious and decided to give it a try and I haven’t looked back.

FireDragon is great, but I found one problem which really annoyed me - enhanced tracking protection is too agressive. When I looked at a page which had an embedded twitter post I found that the only way to display the post was to go into settings and exempt the site from enhanced tracking protection. I ended up with numerous sites where I had to disable the feature, thus it made it pretty useless.

Floorp offers the standard mode for enhanced tracking protection…

…and this doesn’t break Twitter embeds. I use uBlock Origin along with uMatrix for browser security so I have no problems with the reduced tracking protection of the browser.

The browser itself is very flexible and offers many different interface options. Here are some screenshots…

Firefox Proton UI

Firefox Photon惻Lepton UI

Floorp Fluerial UI

GNOME Theme

The tab bar can be displayed under the toolbar…

…you can have a multi-tow tab bar…

… and you can even put the tab bar at the bottom of the browser:

Some of the browser options that are easily applied via settings:

The browser supports JPEG XL images JPEG XL Test Page

Tabs can be set to go to sleep after xx min to reduce RAM usage.

Overall, Floorp has a few minor quirks (I couldn’t get the vertical tab bar to work), but I’m sure this will be fixed in a future version.

It’s an excellent browser.

i like it too, but i love Firedragon’s security. (eff twatter)
i wonder if dr460nf1r3 could use this as the base package for a future Firedragon?

@FGD :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

It uses Firefox ESR as base, the question is whether patches would still apply at it seems heavily modded. In fact, I’m currently daily driving this one too.

Regular Updates

Floorp is based on Firefox ESR. Floorp will be updated every 4 weeks, and security updates will be provided before Firefox release.

No User Tracking

We don’t get personal information from users. We don’t track users. We don’t sell user data. We don’t have any relationship with any advertising company.

Completely Open Source

The source code for Floorp is fully public, allowing anyone to view the source code and build Floorp. It is not only the browser itself that is open to the public. The build environment is also open source.

Funny you mention this, I am about to start trying building a Firedragon based on Floorp.

i’m a bit too eccentric and opinionated to be a ā€˜great’ mind, but i thank you for the inference =-)

As a footnote to my above overview of Floorp with screenshots I’ve got 3 more because they show what I think is the best aspect.

I mentioned that I couldn’t get the vertical tab bar to work, well, it just so happens it’s now working, and once you get used to it it’s great because you’ve got a larger area for the web page to be displayed.

In the design section of settings you set the following…

…the ā€œCollapse Vertical Tab Barā€ is a required setting.

when this is done the browser interface looks like this…

…and when you want to change tabs you simply move your mouse pointer over the vertical tab bar, out it pops…

…and you select the required tab.

I love it.

Even though I’ve been using FireDragon for a long while, I recently tried Waterfox again after many many years. Last time I used it was because it actually was a 64-bit browser, and that was the new and exciting thing at that time!

Pretty neat that the new version of Waterfox has DNS over Oblivious HTTP already set up out of the box. (DNS over Oblivious HTTP uses DNS over HTTPS to encrypt DNS queries, but it also redirects requests through proxy servers, so that the DNS provider can’t link domain queries to the specific user.) More info here: Improving DNS Privacy with Oblivious DoH in 1.1.1.1

Also, I’ve noticed Waterfox somehow has the menu integration working again for KDE. Not sure how they got this to work, but it was also a welcomed addition. Still has slight bugs with that menu though; if you change your bookmarks for instance.

I guess my biggest issue is finding a good browser that will sync and run on all y devices, I use the following devices regularly and need one web browser that runs well on all of them:
Garuda Linux on Desktop PC
Windows 11 on Work Laptop
iPad Air 5
iPhone 15 Pro

Floorp is a fork of Firefox, so you could use Floorp on Garuda and sync it with Firefox on the other O/S’s.

Floorp. Floorp. Floorp, floorp, floorp.

I just love saying that word. Do it too much out in public, though, and men in white coats may come for you. :frowning:
