Hey all,
Disclaimer: I’m new to Garuda and I’ve been using Garuda Hyprland for 3 months now, I love it!
After seeing the what’s new video on Garuda Hyprland, I decided to give it a try, only to realize I was unable to open G-Hyprland at all on my system. After sending a dumb question in the comments, AnkurAlpha was kind enough to help me and asked me to post this to the forums as it seems to be a common issue.
a simple workaround would be:
run :
upd -a
cp /etc/skel/.local/bin/keyhint.sh ~/.local/bin/keyhint.sh
And paste this in your hypr config :
bind = $mainMod SHIFT, G, exec, footclient -e ~/.local/bin/bear/implement_gum.sh enable
Now, I’ve been trying this workaround and started to find a few things that may help others who are going through the same as me:
- Updating Garuda Hyprland does not install Gum & Bear, which means the workaround above may not work
- I’ve manually installed both and I’m in the process of testing the workaround again. I’ll update this post if I find any other dependencies as I won’t be able to continue testing this for a few hours.
I’d like to thank AnkurAlpha for being so helpful to a random stranger on a YouTube comment and hopefully I’ll be able to get this sorted out and share my learnings here
