Dual Monitor: one not working

  1. Hello! I have 2 identical Dell P2719H monitors. When I installed garuda, the default monitor setup in KDE settings → Display and Monitors worked perfectly (both side-by-side).

  2. Today I cleaned my setup, so had to unplug and replug the monitors. Now both are showing up in KDE settings, but only one shows display, other shows black screen
(i.e. it’s not that the monitor isn’t detected…it is, but isn’t showing display.)
I can even move a window to the black monitor. But the monitor complains it isn’t receiving a signal.

  3. Things I tried:
    a. Unplugging and replugging hdmi cable, power cable to monitor.
    b. garuda-update

  4. My GPU is an NVIDIA GTX 1650 Super. The working monitor is plugged in via displayport, and the black-screen one is plugged to the VGA port via an HDMI-to-VGA adapter.

  1. Help will be much appreciated. Thank you!

Which nvidia drivers do you have installed?

Recommended drivers: NVIDIA - ArchWiki

You should have nvidia-dkms or nvidia-zen installed.

One way to check for this:

sudo pacman -Ss nvidia | grep installed

I have the same issue with my three Monitor setup.

One is black.

But with my Snapshot restore is all good. I could rerun garuda-update and post the garuda-inxi again, with all infos.

Ah thank you. So the most recent update killed it?

If I were you, I would get a new cable for the second monitor. It is probably the cable. I have had loads of problems with different HDMI cables… VGA too.

I have an GTX 1060 on the table here, and this has DP, HDMI and DVI.

I’d get an extra HDMI to → Monitor side. Or get DVI → Monitor side.

Wait. If the VGA is on the Motherboard, then the fault is obvious? Or is the VGA on the monitor side?

Yes I think so.

After restore my snapshot, it is alright. So there is nothing with the cable.

Mark your own post as the solution

It’s not his thread

@19topgun93 Got me. :melting_face:

Let’s see if OP got it fixed.

Is it a solution to go to a snapshot? Should it be the fix that I can update my System? Or have I missed something in the thread

It’s fine. You can kind of ignore it. We want OP to fix the issue as well

Sry. Who is OP :joy: :see_no_evil:

:joy:

Aaaaaah and now I have to wait that the Problem can be fixed, that I can do garuda-update? Or it is so, that it will be posted here, if the issue is fix?

System is the following: OP makes the thread. Asks for advice, solutions for the problem. (We have not confirmed whether OP problem is fixed. )
For these forum Topics and posts to be useful, we need questions and confirmed solutions. Of course OP (strangeQuark1041) will choose the solution. It’s quite straight forward.

This thread is a template on of how not to fix problems. At least I learned something in the process. Next…

Apologies everyone, I was away for a couple of days.

I tried that, but booting from the last snapshot gets stuck at setting up additional binary formats
I’ve got this same error before.
I made a separate thread for it.

Same here. Maybe I’m missing something, but booting from a snapshot is only a temporary fix.
How do I know which update is the one which resolves the issue, if that fix ever even happens?
Until then I can’t update.

Thanks, I’ll try swapping the cables/ports to see if it makes a difference.

No no, I haven’t plugged anything into the motherboard for graphics. Only into the graphics card.
