Desktop Crashing Randomly

Hello,
I’m a bit new to Linux so bare with me.

Been experiencing crashes where my desktop would black screen, shut down all apps and processes, and behave as though I just turned on my PC and logged in. I am unsure how to reproduce it as it seems to occur randomly whenever I do some sort of action, such as copying and pasting, using the snipping tool, opening a Steam game, etc.

I’ve tried simply rebooting, updating my system, changing kernels, removing/changing widgets in the panel config, but nothing seemed to work.

Using journalctl and information from https://forum.garudalinux.org/t/desktop-randomly-restarts/45812, it has something to do with either plasmashell or the compositor.
I still do not know what causes them to crash or how to fix it however, so any help will be appreciated.

✅ System health check passed. No issues found.

But no bios update. Oudated bios you have. Pls “fix” this. Think on the right settings after.

Also your psu = 750 W (not less)

I’ve updated my BIOS and re-set the settings I’ve had before. If you’re wondering, I have secure boot disabled, no I don’t overclock, yes i have XMP set up.
I’ve also updated my garuda-iwni on my original post.

If the problem occurs again, I’ll make another reply.

I’m unsure what you mean by this. My PSU should absolutely be fine for the components that I have.

You could turn your KDE compositor off as a troubleshooting step.

You could also test using an X11 session for comparison.

Please do not edit your garuda-inxi. This output is a log, and if something changes, you post the logs again. Thanks.

Since when have you had this issue, from the beginning?

If this happens again, open the terminal afterwards and use

garuda-diag

and post the generated link.

Maybe around a month since installing Garuda. I don’t exactly remember the first instance this has happened, nor do I remember installing anything substantial during that time.

I did reinstall all packages around 3 days ago using

garuda-update remote reinstall

Have yet to experience the crash, but I can’t say for sure if it is fixed.

Hi, Had just last week a similar issue, unsure if its related,

Over two pcs, Two different kernels two different UIs (gnome and KDe)

On one it would crash. Freeze, behave weirdly.

on the other not even the update worked correctly.

Settings > Session > i set it to start an empty session, reboot. Everything works fine so far.
unsure if its related. but it fixed it for me.

It happened again. Garuda's PrivateBin
Opened Dolphin and desktop restarted, closing all apps I had open.

As someone else already mentioned. I’d try using X11 instead of Wayland. It might not help, but a lot of people seem to find it more stable.

Just crashed again while launching FFXIV: Garuda's PrivateBin
