Cinnamon install with Wayland?

I tried adding the cinnamon package and it was no go. No screen, no login, no nothing ;-). Is there a way I can have Wayland, Hyprland and Cinnamon all installed at the same time? Is there a magical mix I need to choose to install to get cinnamon as well? In testing some the appimages I need run work under cinnamon, but faill under wayland, so I was hoping to have both as an option.

Normally i would say you can just swap plasma to x11 mode at the login screen in the bottom left.

The best way to try is install cinnamon Arch Linux - cinnamon-desktop 6.4.0-1 (x86_64) an make a new user, use that user for cinnamon to prevent problems same with hyprland if you plan to install it as well.

Restart. or log out. cilck in the bottom right where it says plasma wayland or it will say plasma x11 change it to cinnamon an log in on the new user you created before.

Note wayland isn’t its own desktop but the compositor think of it as the back end that makes your desktop work.

As for appimages there whole point is to work on any desktop. Best to drag an drop them into the terminal an see what it says an go from there.

It has always been a disaster waiting to happen if you install multiple DE’s or WM’s together. It is possible though to have them installed altogether, and they will be accessible through your display manager whether its gdm, lightdm or any other login screen as stated by @elite

I find this a cooler way to have multiple DE’s without them having to overwrite or misconfigure something. While it will give you a few pains in the head to setup and get running, it is worth it.

Thank you so much for the reply. I will read through that link. I really would like to stay in Wayland. But so far none of 3D printing appimages for my printers work in Wayland. I am tying hard to leave Windows behind. :wink:
