I have a brother-dcp7060d. I managed to have it print through the brlaser driver, though the scanner app can’t find it. I know it works with the brscan4 package from AUR, that’s what I found on the net, but as AUR isn’t exactly safe, and I can’t review the PKGBUILD file (it’s not accessible), would you mind adding it to chaotic-AUR?
I’m also quite sure others would benefit from the other brscan (1 to 5) drivers ^^
Chaotic-AUR is an unofficial package repository that contains pre-built packages from the Arch User Repository (AUR) . It is an automated building service that compiles AUR packages so users don’t have to build them themselves.
Chaotic-AUR is a convenient way to access AUR packages without having to build them yourself, but users should still exercise caution and verify the packages, as it is an unofficial repository.
To clarify SGS’s response, adding a package to chaotic-aur does not inherently make it safer than building it yourself straight from the aur. It only requires added trust in the repository maintainers/reviewers and the build server, rather than solely in the packager.
The PKGBUILD can be viewed using an aur helper or by executing:
git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/brscan4
cd brscan4
cat PKGBUILD
I would argue that with our added manual reviews on anything but version changes + trusted maintainers it’s reasonably safe. Of course it won’t ever be 100% safe (e.g., what happens if source repo has malware injected), but it’s better than it was before. I’m personally involved with reviewing things
Thanks for your answer and your work!
I’ve always been a bit afraid of AUR. I’m not a dev myself and reading pkgbuild files isn’t exactly something that speaks to me a lot… As chaotic-AUR is enabled in pacman repos by default I thought they were as safe as the official repos.
It seems that a somewhat necessary part of it requires gtk2, which Chaotic-AUR does not provide due to its extreme age. Support ended in 2020 with the release of GTK 4.0. This has unfortunately affected many printer utilities aside from Brother.
Hello all, been a minute since I’ve been able to visit the forum and all. I’m not sure if this one has been requested, couldn’t find any results for it.
Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum. Have been using it as lookup tool but just created the user for posting this request, as I personally use my PC as everyday tool and for gaming. I figured as curseforge now has an actual linux client (.deb & .AppImage). I figured it would be cool to bring it to the Chaotic-AUR as it is really handy to have around for mods, and has been a really trusted tool for this specific usecase, especially now with Hytale finally being released as well and having choosen curseforge for their modding platform.
There is an AUR release of it available, i’ve used to install it. But would love for it to be an addition for the Chaotic-AUR
It depends on AUR, if AUR is updated it will usually be updated in very short time unless there’s a build issue. So asking AUR maintainer to update is usually the first thing to do.
Vorta is no longer in the Chaotic-AUR, since it got moved to extra repo last year. This is a slightly unusual case, as the package has been flagged out of date since 2025-11-28 and a revision/rebuild of the same version has been in testing since 2026-01-03. I don’t know what the holdup is, but I’m sure that it is being worked on. There is already an open issue for it:
