Chaotic-AUR | Packages | Requests | Recompilation | Reports

Thanks for adding Siril, but its doing the Alpha release, and not the mainline. So it just upgraded to the 1.3 alpha. Can this be set to the main line release please (1.2.1 currently)?

Thanks, Bro. I though I can install programs only by using the pre-installed Octopi, and Chaotic AUR. As far as I understand the AUR instructions, I should run the link in the Terminal, right?

Follow the links.

  1. You first review the PKGBUILD.
  2. Then download a “snapshot” and extract the PKGBUILD.
  3. Then you open a terminal in the extracted PKGBUILD directory and type “makepkg -si” and follow any prompts.

That is the official, Arch-approved method of installing Arch User Repository (AUR) packages. No “helper” application needed.

I would still like to request that both Rainlendar Pro and FreeFileSync are added to the chaotic-aur repo, if possible. I am more comfortable with the use of Octopi. I am still learning stuff, and I am grateful for support.

Either can be easily installed from the AUR with Octopi, assuming nothing errors-out with the build process.

Until you start stepping out of your “comfortable” zone, you don’t have a hope of learning Linux. In that case, might as well return to Windows. You don’t have to learn much there.

Think I’m a bit harsh? You should have heard my first mentor. Those are the exact words he told me over 20 years ago. And because of those words, I plucked my head out from my nether regions (ass), and got serious about learning something totally new. Hence I’m still here (where the learning never stops. )

Where/who do you want to be? I’m over 70 years old and except for skydiving, learning Linux is the most fun I’ve ever had with my pants on.

I’m not saying “don’t use Octopi.” I use it myself. What I am saying, is learn the processes Octopi, ALPM, and Pacman use. Learn your OS!

If everyone thought they could use Linux, everyone would. But you belong to an elite number of people who think they can, and so they do.

Now go out there and become the Linux Warrior you always knew you were!

OK, I’ll back off a little.

All good, Bro. Nothing wrong with a bit of harsh.

I am on Linux for a week, so there is much to learn. And I do not plan to go back to Windows. Though, the learning curve is quite steep, coming from using Windows for 25 years.

I though this was the forum thread, where programs can be requested to be added to Garuda’s own Chaotic-AUR. I have still not found info how these two differ, and why the Arch AUR is not used.

As your suggestion seems to be building the applications, there are still open questions in my mind. Will they auto-update, if if not installed from Garuda’s “store” Octopi? What is the difference of installing apps in this way? If I encounter issues, will I get support here, or do I need to check in an Arch forum?

I am not shy of learning, but some starting easing up goes a long way. Cheers.

It builds for you the AUR packages, so you save energy and time building the packages yourself.

Aha, thanks, SGS. I was on the website previously, but I did not fully understand the description. Your explanation is more noob-friendly, and seems I was in the right forum thread.

Not only what SGS says, but the Chaotic-Aur sometimes (sometimes) has ready-to-install pkgs that might have otherwise errored-out.

You will not get support in the Arch Forums. Don’t even think about making a post there. Why?

  1. You don’t run Arch you run Garuda. Therefore you are not entitled to Arch’s support.
  2. You besmirch Garuda and everyone associated with it if you do so and it leaaves a bad impression there of us and you. I’ve seen that with other distros (i.e. Manjaro).

A post was split to a new topic: Someone with this problem?

I wanted to install extra wallpapers provided by garuda ,
when I try to install, it gives me invalid PGP signature error .

Is there a reason why ‘thunderbird-appmenu’ was removed from Chaotic-AUR?

Install thunderbird-beta  its in chaotic also language pck’s

Thanks @SGS , the main feature of ‘thunderbird-appmenu’ is the global-menu feature for KDE. All the other thunderbird versions do not have it.

What is KDE?
