Black screen during installation

I’ve created a bootable Garuda (Dragonized) USB stick.
During installation when I select open source or proprietary drivers the screen goes black and nothing happens after that.

I am trying to install on an Acer Predator Triton 500. (core i7 10th gen and 2080s gpu)

I have turned off safe boot and according to a previous post where it mentions legacy I do not see this option in UEFI.

What can I do please?

Kind regards, Mikey.

Check shasum, use ventoy and post the full ISO name you try and where you download them.

If possible, try a different stick.

Check also that you have the most upto date bios for your motherboard

hello here is the full ISO name : garuda-dr460nized-linux-zen-240428
I added this iso along with Manjaro and arconet … this is the only one that will not boot … love the tip on ventoy, thats a VERY handy tool!

I am totally lost on your other recommendation though : shasum?

As for updating BIOS I am very afriad it to that, I once followed an official guide by assus and my mobo on my desktop PC was bricked, lol

the fans continue to whirl, the lights of the keyboard stop … I attached a second monitor and no joy there …

BTW, I downloaded the iso from here and used cloudflare : Garuda Linux | Download

man shasum
sha256sum <full ISO name>

The value for sha256 checksum is on the same place you use cloudflare download.

sha256sum garuda-dr460nized-linux-zen-240428.iso

cat garuda-dr460nized-linux-zen-240428.iso.sha256

You are the second person to have this problem with an Acer laptop with INTEL/NVIDIA.

Can you please try a current iso?

Or the LTS version

same with build zen 240428 and LTS 240501 appears to be working, lots of starting and finishing of bootup tasks.

Short test with an Acer Aspire V 17 Nitro Black Edition + ventoy + garuda-dr460nized-linux-zen-240428.iso:

Type: Laptop System: Acer product: Aspire VN7-793G v: V1.11
Info: model: Intel Core i5-7300HQ
Device-1: Intel HD Graphics 630
Device-2: NVIDIA GP106M [GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile]

No problems, everything runs smoothly.

Just for your understanding, you have:
AHCI → on
Fast boot → off
Secure Boot → off
?

Thanks all that have helped … we are rocking now with the LTS build. Mind if I ask the difference between this and default one?

both fast boot and secure boot where turned off … I wasn’t familair with AHCI. It’s working with the LTS build.

One build has the linux-lts kernel preinstalled and the other the linux-zen kernel.

Have fun with garuda and welcome to the community
